False Advertising

[ Edited ]

I was on your website and saw that the advertised price for an amazon echo dot on sale for $24.99, marked down from $49.99. Under that listed price there was a separate advertised discount: buy 2, save $40. This means the total cost should be $9.98. When I added two dots to my cart, the price was $49.98: the $40 for buying two had not been applied. I just spent 40 minutes on the phone with a supervisor Deandre: employee ID {removed per forum guidelines}. He argued with me by just repeating that the $40 discount had already been reflected by the item being on sale for $24.99. I explained in numerous ways how THAT DOESN’T MAKE SENSE. I tried to question why the website would advertise a customer would have to buy 2 to save $40 if you could buy one at a deeper discount. I would like someone to contact me and process two echo dots for $9.98 since that’s what is being advertised. I have a screenshot of your websites’ advertisement if you need it. I also want Deandre to be coached on how to not sound like a moron by repeating the same nonsensical explanation. That customer service and experience was HORRENDOUS!

Re: False Advertising

The Buy 2 Save $40 is for items at their regular price, $49.99*2-$40 savings placing the total at $59.98 for 2. You can verify this yourself by clicking the promotion you mentioned and reading the terms listed. It states: “Markdowns taken from the regular or was prices”. As you can see, there is a better promotion going on right now with the units being on sales for $24.99 which would save you $10 over the regular Buy 2 save $40 promotion.

Re: False Advertising

Ok why would you respond if your opinions don’t represent Best Buy? The item is on sale for $24.99, but there is still a $40 discount for buying two. let’s say I put one of these in my cart for $24.99. Then I put another in my cart for $24.99. Where is the $40 savings?

Re: False Advertising

I can't speak officially on behalf of Best Buy as that is what the moderator team is here to do, but as an employee I can point you in the right direction.  It's also what I do every day.  You can check the accuracy of the information I provided you by going to the promotion page on bestbuy.com and reading the terms right there. It states, and again I quote " “Markdowns taken from the Regular or Was prices.” In this instance, it would be $49.99 each to save $40 putting your total at $59.98 instead of the current sale in which 2 would cost $49.98.

"The item is on sale for $24.99, but there is still a $40 discount for buying two. let’s say I put one of these in my cart for $24.99. Then I put another in my cart for $24.99. Where is the $40 savings?"

Since the pricing is below the $49.99 Was price listed for the item, the current promotion of $24.99 is a better deal.  You cannot stack these two promotions, the current one is better than the Buy 2 Save $40.

Re: False Advertising

So what, you’re just answering for fun in your spare time? Do I need to wait for a moderator or is this the best Best Buy has to offer? Why is buy two, save $40 still being advertised if there is actually a different, better, discount currently being offered? If Best Buy’s intent is for people to just get however many they want for $24.99 each, then there should be no mention of the buy two, save $40.

Re: False Advertising

Also, your explanation and Deandre’s explanations don’t match.

Re: False Advertising

Yep, I love to help out customers by providing the knowledge and resources I have.  I'm in a role where I don't get to assist with this as much so at times I miss it.

1. $24.99 sale price is a very limited, only a few times of year offer usually tied to holidays.  It was first seen during a black friday promotion but this is part of our Independence Day promotions and only available for a limited time.

2.  Buy 2 save $40 is a general promotion that started before and most likely will last longer than the current sale price.  When there is a short-lived holiday sale that stacks on top of a longer promotion, they don't temporarily hide it.  The terms lists that you can't stack both promotions, which I think covers all the bases.

You're welcome to wait for an official answer, but I wouldn't necessarily expect a different outcome.

I can't speak to Deandre's explanation, my answer matches the promotion terms and conditions that you can verify.

Re: False Advertising

Good morning, all,

Welcome to our forums, and thank you for sharing your feedback with us.  Based on the pricing of these items for the promotion, I can understand being excited to order them.

The savings for this offer was intended to be off regular pricing, not sale pricing.  As this was an error, we have removed the promotion from the website and will be unable to offer this promotion under our Terms & Conditions for BestBuy.com found here.

I apologize for any inconvenience this experience has caused.

Respectfully,
