Elite Plus Canceled - new return policy

Extremely disappointed in the customer service I’ve received from Best Buy. I’ve been an Elite plus member (at minimum, Elite), for many many years. I spend a ton of money at Best Buy, and always have because I had total piece of mind with purchases. Nowadays not so much, and I’m pretty much done at this point. I understand ending a program like this, but with 0 notification and removing benefits I’ve had for years is just not right.

Purchased an item July 31 online, it arrived 8/3 but I was out of town for the week so had it put inside by a family member. Got around to using it mid august and it doesn’t perform to my expectations for a product in that price range, so I planned to return it. I’m a busy person just like a lot of people, but I’ve always had 45 days to return items to Best Buy so I was in no rush. I arrived at the store today to return it, and to my shock I’m now only allowed to return items within 14 days!! 14 days is ridiculous. Zero notification that I’d be losing that benefit is worse.

The store manager told me I could now spend $199 for total tech, to get that benefit as of May this year. He says it’s actually cheaper because I don’t have to spend as much - but the reality is that I’ve ALREADY spent that much - and typically do annually. What a crock.

Now I’m stuck with a lackluster item I’ll have to try to sell second hand for a loss. All because I had no idea the return policy was changed. Rather than erasing loyalty, the tech rewards should have been given for a year so that we could keep our benefits - then charge me the $199 annually. At minimum there should have been notification of the change. Online customer service said a mail went out 5/22 but there is nothing but a million promotional mails in my inbox.

Absolutely ridiculous, I’ll find another retailer who doesn’t have such a horrible return policy, and perhaps respects their loyal customers.

Many customers were notified about the change that was upcoming. It may be still in your spam if you check it however many email providers automatically remove junk after certain days so you cannot see it anymore.

Thanks for the reply - I don’t have any problem receiving the daily promotion from Best Buy so not sure if it would have gone to spam. Certainly possible though - and like you said my spam is deleted that far back.
