Double charge for online order that was canceled?

I placed an online order for store pickup, and the charge showed immediately on my credit card as pending.  I waited all day for the order to be filled, but nothing.  So I decided to cancel the order and go into the store to find and purchase the item myself.  

 

Now my credit card is showing two identical pending charges for the online order, instead of one charge and one credit.  Is that normal??  Am I to assume both those charges will fall off with the order being canceled?  (And it's also showing the charge for me purchasing the item in the store.  So I acutally have 3 charges for the one item/order I purchased.)

I would not want 3 charges for one item on my account either, especially around the Holidays, so I can certainly understand you reaching out. When an order is placed with a debit or credit card the funds are not collected until the order is being fulfilled. During that time, it is only an authorization that may or may not be held by the bank. If the order is cancelled, nothing is being refunded to a credit or debit card since no funds were collected. The authorization should simply drop off, and the funds should be released by the bank.

 

This typically happens within about a week or so, but can take up to one full billing cycle in some cases. This timeframe depends on your financial institution, so we would recommend reaching out to them if you need a more specific window.
