Cannot redeem reward points

So for the past few weeks, anytime I've tried to redeem Reward Points, I get the error "We're sorry, we're unable to issue a reward certificate". The points I try to redeem are not pending, and I have tried on mobile app along with desktop browser. I called the support line and was told to wait 24 hours, which I did... again and again and again. It's been weeks and the only thing I have been told was to "wait 24 hours" and try again. I finally got a hold of somebody who said my account was on hold and to wait another 24 hours.

I purchased a TV for Black Friday, but at this point, I am thinking I should've used Amazon so I could've used my Amazon card for their rewards. I've always chosen Best Buy for electronics, but why continue if the opportunity cost is negative since I can't use my points?

Thanks for reaching out to us about the troubles you've had with redeeming your My Best Buy points. I can understand that reward certificates are a great way to save some extra money on a purchase, and not being able to generate one from your points is not ideal.

Hi all,

Just to provide an update on this - Best Buy apparently locked my account, so even though I can purchase items and earn reward points, they are now impossible to redeem. I was never informed of this until I aggressively reached out to every contact I could find over two weeks, and now all points I've earned don't matter. When asked why this happened, I was told I could not be provided an answer, but it was not possible to reverse. Looking over terms and conditions, I can only assume they thought I was buying items for resell, because I purchased a grand total of four PS5s (one for me, three for friends) and two GPUs (one for me, one for cousin) in a one year period. This is only a guess of course, because they won't tell me why this happened.

I have no clue how long this has been in place, since I've been earning points like normal the whole time. Pretty frustrating since now even if I refund the TV I bought literally less than a week ago, I won't be able to purchase elsewhere for Black Friday pricing.

Just let this be a lesson I guess - Best Buy has the power to take away reward redemptions, but will absolutely not tell you about it. Unfortunately looks like my last purchase from Best Buy - nothing but good things until this experience.

And now I have 0 reward points at all. When I look at point history, it shows membership cancellation and all my points (and pending points) have been deducted. Still no explanation as to why. Gotta love that transparency.
