There's no forum for the app so I hope this is close enough.
I already have a best buy .com account. If I try to log in to the android app using my email, it lets me in (and 2-factor authentication works fine) but it tells me I need to create an account. if I try to create an account on the app, it tells me that email is already in use. Obviously.
How do I log in to the Best Buy app? Your desktop website isn't working for what I need to do so I was hoping to use the app.

Welcome back to the Best Buy Community forums. Having trouble logging in to an app is always a pain. I'm sorry to hear that you're having this issue.
Please make sure you aren't using any kind of VPN, or connecting through a company WiFi connection. That can cause issues with logging in. If you're on personal WiFi or cell service, and still can't log in, you'll want to uninstall and reinstall the app.
