"with Activation today"

I am currently with T-mobile right now and am currently on a plan with them. I am planning to upgrade phones and sim card as well as my current phone and sim card is quite old.
WIth the activate now option for the discounted price, what does that entail?
Do I have to pay anything extra? Am I signing up for a new line? Is there any catches?
What exactly are the steps to take for this offer if say I wanted to pay full price? Would I just go to my best buy store and then ask to purchase with the activate now? What happens after that?
Are there any other information I should know about the "with activation today" option?
I am confused with this so if possible the more detailed the better. Thank you!

You would need to call T Mobile first and let them know that you plan to upgrade phones. Also make sure your account is in the clear and free from missed payments and device payments you may have.

 

Purchasing the device without activate today are for people who want to bring the device home and set it up themselves. At least this is how I understand it.

 

Are you on a contract?

Yes that is it. Best Buy may be able to help you set it up and transfer the service to the new phone. You should go to the store and bring a copy of your bill plus your photo ID and have your account number and pin handy. Visit the mobile department to make sure that you can do that otherwise if you can't get the cheaper price you can pay the full price without discount and set it up yourself at home.

I see but I still dont really get what "with activation today" means...Like do I just go in ask for that and theyll activate my phone through tmobile with a new sim and everything? Are there any fees? Do they make any changes to my current tmobile plan? (like increasing the bill and whatnot). Is there any catch to it to get the $100 off?
