So I recently bought a new motherboard with a Intel CPU 13th gen. The motherboard supports 13th gen but the bios needs to get an update. I was thinking on buying a 12th gen CPU on best buy, update my bios and then return it. The cheapest CPU available in my area is 300dlls and I wouldn't want to be stuck with the CPU in case they won't take it back. Would it be a problem??

The installation requires thermal paste for the CPU to prevent burning out the processor. If you apply the thermal paste, it may be un-returnable as items need to be returned in like new condition in order to get a refund.

Good Evening, czhong.
Welcome to the Best Buy Forums.
Thanks for reaching out. Thank you for input hockeycanuckjc, you are correct. Returning the CPU will be up to the store's discretion, as to whether it will be excepted or not. With that being said, if you choose to go that route, I recommend properly cleaning the processor before returning it, as they may be more likely to accept.
Kind regards,
