apple MacBook returns PROBLEM

i recently purchased a new 16" macbook pro i9 and had an overheating problem. so i returned to the best buy in huntington and well, first of all the employees were professional and polite. the salesperson began pushing the i7 model saying this will definatly work. i asked if i could just retrun and he begins to tell me "well yes but we will have to send you a check" a store of this size does not have the CASH?? so i was pressured into exchanging for the i7 model and guess what THE SAME PROBLEM!!

i live an hour and a half away and it sucks because i am not driving all the way just for them to try and push another mac on me or have to wait to get my money back when i paid CASH

oh and i ordered a imac from apple and it works perfect

i really do not want to make that road trip to go thru this again. made me feel real uncomfortable.

Re: apple MacBook returns PROBLEM

Well this is a good reason to use a credit card such as a Best Buy Credit card as you would have had  your money right away.

From a security standpoint it makes very good sense for a store to not keep that much cash on hand.

It is not Best Buys fault if Apple is sending out defective products.

Best Buy did not manufacture the 2 defective Apple computers you received. Apple did.

And I imagine you had to use a Credit Card to purchase the computer from Apple

Re: apple MacBook returns PROBLEM

To add to what bobberuchi stated, the refund methods and timing is listed in the Returns Promise. Cash over $800 or checks over $250 are returned via mail check. This seems to be common at most major retailers as electronic transactions take over.

Full return policy is available here: https://www.bestbuy.com/site/help-topics/return-exchange-policy/pcmcat260800050014.c?id=pcmcat260800...

Overheated as in they shut off?

I've read Apple is having issues with the i9 thermo throttling but not overheating. That's pretty much what happens with you stuff a big cpu in a super thin machine with not enough cooling.

Re: apple MacBook returns PROBLEM

I’ve rendered 8k video with transitions on my 16” I9, unless he’s had really bad luck my guess is the fan noise is what he’s hearing. Even at peak temperature it was below the limits on my MacBook, although it was hotter than one would like. This is a well-known and accepted trade off. The thermal throttling was on the 15” I9 from 2018 and 2019, I have not had any of those issues with mine. That being said, if I needed that kind of horsepower continuously I would not choose a laptop. I use it sparingly, less than twice a month so the portability is nice. It makes sense that the iMac doesn’t have that issue, it has more than double the airspace in and around the cpu/gpu.

Re: apple MacBook returns PROBLEM

Good afternoon, rickstr1964,

Thank you for joining our Community and sharing your experience with us.  As someone who recently upgraded my personal laptop, I know selecting the right one for you can take some time.  Once you have found the right laptop, it’ll ideally work as expected and not have any issues, so it’s disappointing to hear the previous two MacBooks you’ve purchased have been having some trouble with overheating, and you’ve needed to return them as a result.

As bobberuchi and jdogg836 have mentioned, if you paid more than $800 in cash for your purchase, you can expect your refund by check within 10 business days.  This is outlined in the terms of our Return & Exchange Promise, which you’ll find here.

Using the information you’ve provided upon joining our Support Forums, I see you were able to return your MacBook to your local Best Buy store, and I’m optimistic the replacement MacBook you’ve ordered elsewhere will fit your needs.

Regards,

The recording is in the meeting software itself if it allowed by the meeting administrator. Zoom for example would say "record to cloud". In the menu options.
