Why won't Geek Squad put a screen protector on a device

I came into the store with a tablet I purchased from best buy along with a screen protector I purchased from another place. Geek Squad refused to put on; "we aren't allowed to touch items from outside of best buy." I went to the electronics desk and it was the same thing. "what if it gets messed up?"

I'm ASKING for it to be put on. If it gets messed up, I'll get another one. Thanks Best Buy for providing a service. Guess I'll just do it myself and have bubbles on it. Never has this been a problem before with getting a screen protector installed.

This has to do with guaranteeing the install, we can’t guarantee it if it’s not one we sell. That installation charge comes with a guarantee. They brought up another point, it has likely been an issue in the past where a customer wanted us to replace it when the install went south. My store has never offered to install other brands of screen protectors for this very reason.

Re: Why won't Geek Squad put a screen protector on a device

The thing is, I specifically requested for the screen protector to be installed. I would think that if the customer is asking, then it is understood that geek squad would not be responsible if there's a problem. I even said "well, if the install doesn't work, then I will just get another screen protector."

I mean, I don't see how the device itself would be damaged from simply applying a screen protector if that's the concern. As it just so happens, my local stores don't even have a screen protector in stock for the Galaxy Tab S7. If they did, I would have purchased the screen protector from BestBuy and it might have been a different story.

Geek Squad Labor (shield installs included) has a guarantee behind it.  Maybe you wouldn't expect it to be guaranteed, but plenty of others will and it is included in the written scope of work for a shield install.  If we can't guarantee it, we won't do it.  It's really that simple.

How could it be damaged?  If it is a liquid type, that solution can ingress the unit and damage the device.  For a dry install type, there is little chance of damage for the unititself but a failed install of the shield will render it unusable.  If we sell it, that's easily rectified.  On a shield from somewhere else, we have no replacement solution.  Again, this is why we don't do it.  You may not expect us to replace it, but a lot of people do.
