Why could I not get store credit for a cancelled order?

So last night I went to cancel an order I had placed for a computer because I saw a different computer I wanted to purchase from the store. When cancelling the order I asked if it was possible to get FULL store credit back. This was completely ignored and the customer service person just refunded me exactly how I paid.
Well now the funds won't be back on my cards in time enough to be able to purchase the computer I want that is on sale. Why could I not just have been given full store credit? I'm very upset and frustrated with this and Best Buy and am thinking of causing a problem next time I go in there.

Re: Why could I not get store credit for a cancelled order?

Hey, Gamerguy1206-

Welcome back to our forum. One of the reasons that I enjoy shopping online is that it facilitates the ability to review all the products and their prices. This help narrows down what I want to purchase. I can understand that after finding a better deal, you would want to exchange the order to reflect the new model.

With Best Buy, when an order is placed, we authorize your credit card to make sure sufficient credit is available. A hold is placed on funds equal to your order total until the order is fulfilled. So, when you canceled the order, your financial institution is who determines when the authorization will be removed, visit this link for a list of estimated timeframes.

Since there hasn’t been a charge made onto your credit card, there isn't a method to transfer the fund onto a store credit. For example, if you had visited the store, and before leaving you noticed another monitored displayed and proceeded to exchange it with customer service. The exchange funds would transfer from your sale to your exchange. However, for online orders that have not been picked up or shipped, you will need to wait for the authorization to expire. Or, if the purchase had already processed, a return to the original payment method would be the only option available.

Re: Why could I not get store credit for a cancelled order?

That's the thing. I didn't order this online. I ordered it in the store. And I did my cancellation in the store. And yes there was a charge to my credit card and now I have to wait for those funds to be returned. What I wanna know is why couldn't the whole transaction just have been refunded in store credit? I'm sure a manager could have done an override.

Also, your response doesn't help with the fact that I won't have my funds back in time to purchase something that's on sale at your store. It makes me sad that I'm forced to purchase a PC from you.
