Was sold a broken MacBook, can’t return it

I was sold a defective MacBook which did not show signs that it was defective until after the 30 day return policy. I bought an upgraded one from Best Buy, while I sent the defective one into Apple. They replaced the Logic Board, the case with battery, as well as the Touch ID board. The people at Apple tend to agree with me that I was sold a defective laptop from Best Buy. Since the electronics are tested under high heat and it did not show these signs before 30 days, Best Buy would not return it and told me they would give me about 25% of what I paid for the laptop as a trade in. I have talked to managers and many people at Best Buy and nobody could care less. I’m very close to returning the upgraded laptop I bought about a month ago and never purchase anything from Best Buy ever again. Is there anybody at Best Buy that cares or can do anything about my situation? Thank you

Anything after the 15 or 30 day return period would be covered under Apple's warranty not by BestBuy. It would be repaired or replaced by Apple at Thier disgression. It would not returnable to the retailer.

So, Apple did repair it. However I had bought a 32GB MacBook because I needed one for school while Apple was fixing it. I would imagine since the first 16GB one was sold to me broken from Best Buy that they would return it and put the money towards the new one that I bought also from Best Buy?

That's not how it works, however if the newer one is within the return period it could be returned.

Re: Was sold a broken MacBook, can’t return it

Good afternoon, Markb0410,

Welcome to our forums, albeit under such unfortunate circumstances.  It’s often disappointing when your product doesn’t work as expected, and is in need of repair.  While I’m glad to hear Apple was able to utilize their manufacturer warranty to repair the issues you had run into, I can certainly understand your disappointment when these problems arose.

In regards to the original MacBook you purchased, it sounds like it is no longer within the return/exchange period offered by our Return & Exchange Promise.  As such we would be unable to offer you a return of this MacBook at this time.  With that said, if you continue to have any issues with the device, I recommend utilizing the manufacturer warranty provided by Apple, and I’m optimistic they’ll be able to assist in addressing any issues you might have.

Re: Was sold a broken MacBook, can’t return it

I will be returning the item and will never purchase anything from Best Buy ever again. That is not the way I would conduct business, and if I sold someone a faulty product I would let them return it for a full refund. Especially if they were an Elite member and bought a more expensive item to replace the broken one I had sold them.
