TAX Difference in store and online

No one have the answer after 2 hours talking to Store, online support and customer service on phone

They charge 45 dollors on a discounted item in store and next day I purchased the same item again for the same price but tax is only 14 dollors  on the discounted price. Talked to store NO Answer /CHAT - after 45 mins NO Help /Customer Service on phone - 45 mins NO USE

why the tax amounts will be diffrent on the same price

Re: TAX Difference in store and online

Hey krish77,

Welcome to the forum, and thanks for shopping with us this holiday season.

Our Tax Information page calls out that sales tax is calculated based on where a purchase is delivered or picked up.  For in-store purchases, this would be based on the store's physical location.  For BestBuy.com orders, this is based on where the item is being shipped or which Best Buy store the items are made for pickup at.  Sales or other promotions that lower the price of the item would also cause the tax on an item to fluctuate as well, which could explain this variation you've seen.

If you'd like me to take a closer look at this particular situation, feel free to send me a private message with the product information and any order numbers from recent purchases.

Thanks for posting,

Re: TAX Difference in store and online

Sales tax on devices financed through a monthly payment plan will be due at the time of purchase. The sales tax due will be charged on the full price of the device.

I told the guy I will pay the full payment of 244 there itself but he said , system did not allow it, that will be your sytem problem , why I am being charged ? I paid the full amount to Sprint next day.

Re: TAX Difference in store and online

Hello krish77,

When you purchase a mobile phone on an installment plan and make monthly payments on the device, you generally only pay the sales tax for the device in full at the time of purchase.  Depending on the carrier and your particular plan, you sometimes have the opportunity to pay a deposit on the phone and lessen your monthly payment amounts.  Different phones will often have different prices, sales, and special offers, which can all affect the tax rate for each device.

With that said, I've received your private message and will be replying to it shortly to go over more specific information related to your purchase.  You can view my message by signing into the forum and selecting the orange envelope at the top of the page.

Speak to you soon,
