Sold me unactivated Cricket Sim Card

I just bought a Cricket Wireless sim card from the Mechanicsburg, PA store.  The cashier scanned the UPC, and I twice asked her if she had to scan the other bar code that speciically says "Scan barcode below for activation," and she said "no."  I get home and try to activate the sim card, and low and below, it does not work and Cricket cusomter service says the sim card is not activiated by Best Buy and they should have scanned the activation bar code.  I do not want to drive 40 minutes to the store to do this, so I either want it to be activated remotely or refund me and I'll throw it out as it is usuelss junk at this point.  I want to mention that this is not the first time Best Buy has sold me an unactivated sim card.  I do not understand how the Best Buy system allows the cashier to sell it without requiring them to scan the activation bar code, but that is not really my concern here.  Please get back to me and I will provide the reciept for the purchase, as well as photographs of the sim card.
