Returns from debit card but no longer have that bank.

I purchased an item from the store and I bought it with my debit card. And for certain personal reasons I no longer do business with that bank. I decide to return the item that I bought and in doing so they tell me they have to return it to the debit card in which I bought it. I explained to them I no longer have that debit card nor do I do business with that bank. They explain to me they're only choices to give me a gift certificate. Or a gift card. I didn't pay with a gift card. I paid with cash out of my debit account. I don't see why I have to accept a gift card from the store after an item I returned because I did not want it. It's forcing me to shop at Best buy when I'm choosing not to. Now I have a gift card with money on it that I don't really want to use because I don't really want to buy a Best buy. Like I said I didn't pay with credit from the store. I paid with cash out of my debit account. So now I have to accept this gift card and shop at a place that I don't want to shop at when my money should have just been refunded to me. So explain to me why can you not return my cash to me when I used cash to buy my items. When I don't want to use your gift card to shop here at this point. Not good customer service and I'm not happy. And I think I'll post that online other places.

Re: Returns from debit card but no longer have that bank.

That is correct. Best Buy can't issue a credit for an account that is no longer valid. So a gift card was issued. I don't think corporate could make an exception and issue you a check. This is standard on all businesses that accept debit and credit cards. You will just have to accept the store credit at ths time.

Re: Returns from debit card but no longer have that bank.

Good morning, Steve69,

Welcome to our forums.  As it sounds like you’re aware, under most circumstances if you return one of your purchases with us, your refund should go back to your original form of payment, as outlined in the terms of our Return & Exchange Promise.  If the debit card used is no longer active, or you closed your banking account between the time your purchase was made and the time you returned your purchase, the store would process your refund back to store credit.

With that said, I’d like to take a closer look into this return to make sure we’re exploring all options available, however, I’ll need a few pieces of information from you in order to do so.  If you could use the blue “Private Message” button in my signature to send me:

  • Your first and last name
  • Your phone number
  • Your email address
  • The “Customer Service PIN” from the bottom of your receipt

As mentioned, be sure to use the blue “Private Message” button in my signature, and if you’re accessing our site on a mobile device, you may need to switch to “Full” or “Desktop” view before this button is visible to you.

Looking forward to hearing from you,
