Hello, zachmcc0103, and welcome to our online community!
Thank you for reaching out to us on the Forums. As someone who is pretty attached to their phone, I definitely understand the importance of having a device that you love and fits your needs. In addition, the trade-in deal you utilized is pretty sweet, and using the $300 on a XS Max return/exchange would depend on if you still have the gift card from the original trade-in or not.
If you do, and if you would be purchasing the XS Max on an installment billing plan, you would be charged taxes from the carrier at the time of purchase. The carrier will not accept Best Buy gift cards as a form of payment for these taxes. If you are instead purchasing the XS Max at full cost, you should be able to use this gift card towards the payment for this phone.
I'd also like to reiterate our return and exchange period for cell phones, which is 14 days from the day you received your device. More about our Return and Exchange Promise can be found here.
If you have any other questions or concerns please let me know!
Hope this helps,
