Refused Price Match

I went to a Best Buy where I asked for a Lenovo laptop to be price matched with the same one on Lenovo's website. The employee looked at it and confirmed that everything matches and I should get the price match. However, they did not have the laptop in store so he said I would have to order it and then could come pick it up. As I was about to order it, he called over his manager to override the price but the manager refused. He claimed that the model number did not match. I showed him that both laptops are the exact same make and model (both yoga 720). Every line of the specs matches word for word with the one on Lenovos website and everything is identical. I even had the store employee and manager confirm it. So then I asked why should I buy the same one from that store and the manager said instant gratification and geek squad service. To which I replied that they don't have the laptop in store so I don't get instant gratification and I would have to pay over $100 for the same laptop plus the extra amount for geek squad which isn't included by default in the purchase. Seeing as this was going nowhere, I went to another Best Buy store. They had the model in the store but refused to match the price. At this point I switched to another Lenovo laptop (yoga 710) and asked them if they would match the same price found on Walmart's website. The manager was confused because the laptop had a Only at Best Buy sticker next to it but this time the model number matched the Walmart one and I was still denied a price match because I was told Walmart was not directly selling the laptop even though it is on their website. I then showed them the Amazon listing for the same laptop the specs matched but they couldn't verify the model number so I was denied again. At this point I'm left wondering two things:
1) does Best Buy make up custom model numbers that are hard to find so they can claim exclusivity and not have to match prices? Even though the same laptop is available elsewhere (confirmed to be the same by Best Buy employees), Best Buy won't match it because the number they have is different
2) why should I buy from Best Buy after this experience? I found three different sources offering the same laptop for less. I spoke with employees who said I should've gotten the price match but got rejected by their managers who couldn't give me a good reason to buy from them instead of Amazon, Walmart, or Lenovo.

Re: Refused Price Match

Both Best Buy and Walmart do order models specific to their stores for every major laptop brand. They can be both hardware changes, included software, or even how the warranty is handled. If they the model numbers are different, there is some difference other then just the model number and Best Buy won't price match it.

Re: Refused Price Match

Ok, but Best Buy doesn't even match the price of the laptop with the exact same model number that was found on Walmart's website.

Re: Refused Price Match

Both laptops have the same hardware confirmed by store employees. Both laptops have model number 80V50010US so I believe the price should be matched.

Re: Refused Price Match

Hello Sw0rd,

Welcome back to the Best Buy forums and thank you for reaching out to us on this matter. I'm sorry to hear that your in-store experience at the locations you visited didn't meet your expectations. I will do my best to look into this matter and figure out what's going on.

Our Price Match Guarantee is one of the many benefits to shopping with us. As long as an item you are trying to price match meets our guidelines linked above then you should be good to go. That said, I have looked up the model number you provided from the retailer you wanted to price match and did note that while it is being displayed on their website, it is being sold directly through a reseller. This in turn would make the item ineligible.

Should you have any additional questions or concerns with this or anything else, please feel free to let us know!

Regards,
