Hey. Long story short, I purchased a $525 CPU (9900k) from the store around a week ago. It was purchased with cash, and I wasnt asked for my name/email/number. I tested the CPU later that day just to realize it didn't work whatsoever, not to mention the serial number on the chip didn't match the one on the receipt. I understand the 15 day return policy, however won't they be suspicious that I'm trying to return a damaged chip that is different than the one I was supposed to have? Couldn't they easily think I'm trying to commit return fraud and either deny my return or call the police? I'm really puzzled on what to do right now, please help me.

Good afternoon, johnj22,
Thank you for connecting with us through our Support Forums to post your question.
As it sounds like you’re aware, your return may be denied if the item being returned does not match the item listed on your receipt. If you have any other questions or concerns regarding our Return & Exchange Promise, you’ll be able to find more information here.

Welcome back, johnj22,
While I’ll be unable to guarantee a particular outcome, I would recommend connecting with your local Best Buy store, if the products you’ve purchased from there is not meeting your expectations, to discuss what options are available to you.
Regarding your recent order with us, if it has been marked as delivered, and you’ve not received it, I would recommend connecting with the carrier, so they might conduct an investigation into its delivery. If you believe it was stolen from your home, I would recommend connecting with your local law enforcement agency, to investigate the matter further.
Respectfully,
