Racially profiled and discriminated at Bourbonnais Illinois location

I came to best buy for an upgrade my mercedes benz factory radio speakers etc.. I was told its best to come in store to get help. I go in store and I told the associate to provide me with buying options for my stereo and find out what speaker size I needed and any installation kits and parts I needed so I can schedule the install. He goes to the back and comes out telling me its very expensive because I have a benz and the kit cost 400 by itself plus a 20.00 kit. I said I know how much it costs thats fine. Can you please go research my stereo and speakers etc... he wouldn't go check until I let him know I could afford it. Then he goes to the back and comes back out to tell me again its very expensive because I have mercedes everything would be around 1000.00 if I want things done the right way or they possibly could save me money by not doing it the right way. He has still at this point haven't. Addressed my initial concern. He wouldn't help me unless I let him know I could afford the $1000. I said im aware can you please go find out what speakers I need and radio. He says you're ok with it? I said yes. He goes to the back and finally wants to tell me my speaker size then he proceeded to try to offer me the most expensive radios. Im not the richest but he automatically felt like I couldn't afford the prices there for some reason. Saddest thing is I never asked him to price anything. I asked for help finding what I needed. He made me feel low and only people of color go through this. If I wasn't a person of color he would've never questioned that person knowing they have a benz. Ive been totally discriminated against. I talked to the manager Frank and he tried to make excuses for the guy Tommy. I told him if I came in asking how much would it cost to replace it, that would be a different story. He wouldn't help me find the products until I said I dont care about the price can you please go find out what I need. It was an easy 1000.00 sell that I was prepared to pay. I've never seen someone treat me like a bum. Like im too poor to buy something. Im very disgusted by this and I can't believe Frank is ok with his associates behavior. He didn't offer me anything but a chance to speak to the installer. He didn't offer any discounts or anything just tried to make excuses. I will put this on every platform I have. And I know I a lot of black celebrities thats against racial profiling. I was saddened by his treatment and felt like a slave in 2021.

Re: Racially profiled and discriminated at Bourbonnais Illinois location

Good morning, Elwilliams,

While I wish your visit to our Support Forums were under more fortunate circumstances, I do appreciate you taking the time to join our Community and sharing your experience with us.  Regardless of the reason for your visit, we hope any customer of ours who chooses to shop at one of our brick and mortar locations will have a positive experience throughout their visit, so it’s disappointing to hear your experience at our Bourbonnais, IL store ended on such a sour note.

Any feedback we receive from our customers is taken very seriously here at Best Buy, so I appreciate you taking the time to call our attention to this matter.  I’d like to make sure we’re fully documenting your feedback here at our Corporate Headquarters, but for me to do so, I’m hoping you could send me a private message with a few pieces of additional information.  If you could use the blue “Private Message” button in my signature to send me:

  • Your first and last name
  • Your phone number
  • Your email address

This, along with the information you’ve provided in your post on our forums, should be enough information for me to properly document your feedback.  As mentioned, be sure to use the blue “Private Message” button in my signature to keep your private information out of the public view of our Support Forums, and if you’re accessing our site on a mobile device, you may need to switch to “Full” or “Desktop” view before this button is visible to you.

Looking forward to hearing from you,
