Problem with amount in credit card summary

   Hi, good day.

Last Monday 04Mar19 I made a purchase at the Best Buy store in Miami (1131 5th Street) for USD 385.19.

On the other hand, when I paid, the POS asked me if I wanted to do it in local currency (ARS) or in US dollars. I chose at that time to do it in local currency, so it looks like the purchase came out ARS 15907.

The problem I have now is double. First of all, the card includes a payment in dollars to settle, when I chose to pay in pesos, and that is what appears on the voucher. Secondly, in the summary of the card the amount I see is USD 411, when the purchase was USD 389. I urgently need someone to tell me what is happening, since they charge me in another currency and a larger amount.

    Greetings.

                          August.

Re: Problem with amount in credit card summary

Hi there, August,

Welcome to our community.  I hope you enjoyed your travels, and we appreciate you stopping by our store in Miami while you were in town!  I’d be happy to shed some light on the situation at hand.

My understanding is that whenever a customer uses an international credit card, they are given the option to pay in US Dollars or their home currency.  If you select to pay with your home currency, that amount will also reflect the exchange rate in the total as well as a currency conversion fee.  Depending on how expensive the product(s) you purchased were, that would likely explain the difference in price you saw.

I hope this helps, but if you have any other questions, don't hesitate to let me know.

Sincerely,

Re: Problem with amount in credit card summary

Hi dear Sam, thanks for the promt answer.

Really, I have two problems. First, I chose to paid in local currency (ARS). Total in the receipt said "Exchange rate: 41.29" and "Transaction currency ARS 15907". In US dollars, the receipt said USD 385.19. But I received the credit card summary to pay, and it said USD 411. So, I am not paing in ARS. And I need to pay more than the receipt said.

Where is the problem? Best Buy or Visa?

Re: Problem with amount in credit card summary

Hi August,

The difference in price may be due to either the fluctuating exchange rate, or the currency conversion fee we charge at the register when using an international credit card.  If you’d like me to take a look at the receipt, I may be able to give you more concrete answers here.  I would just need for you to send me a private message that includes the below information.

Full name

Email address

Phone number

Customer Service Pin from the bottom of your receipt

To send me a private message, just click on the blue button in my signature below labeled “Private Message”.

I look forward to hearing from you.

[ Edited ]

Thanks again, dear Sam.

There are not fluctuating exchage rate, because VISA send me the credit card summary in Dollars, not in ARS, that`s one of the problems. I chose to paid in ARS, the card summary is in USD. When I visit Best Buy, I chose ARS and the amount to paid are print in the recepit. But I received the summary to pay in UDS. Other problem, I spent USD 389 but I received to pay USD 411.

Below my data. I have the receipt, if you need.

Re: Problem with amount in credit card summary

Hello August,

Thanks for sharing those details with me.  To protect your privacy, I had to remove a portion of your post since that information should only be shared via private message.  That said, I was able to review your receipt and confirmed that the exchange rate was applied correctly to the total amount of your purchase.  In past experiences I’ve had where customers have seen an apparent over-charge as you describe, it is simply due to a delay with their bank processing the transaction with the exchange rate.

I would recommend contacting your bank to determine the time frame in which foreign transactions and exchange rate fees are processed.  In my experience, it may take up to two full billing cycles to process.  I realize that it’s quite a bit of time to wait, and I apologize that I do not have a more immediate solution to offer.  If you still don’t see the correct amount applied after two billing cycles have passed, or if you have any questions in the meantime, please feel free to send me a private message and I will see what I can do to help.

Best Wishes,

OK, thanks Sam. I will contact with my bank, in order to solve the problem. In other hand, I tried to answer in a private message, but I have received an error, so I post in the thread. Have a good day.

Sounds good, August.  If you need our help down the road, just give us a shout.  We're happy to assist however we can.

As for the error you saw when sending a private message, that’s usually a pretty quick fix.  I’d suggest trying to clear your browser’s cache and cookies before logging back into the forum if you need to send me or one of my fellow moderators a private message down the road.

I hope you have a great day as well! Smiley Happy
