So, I need some help here about an issue trying to price match a product in store tonight. I was trying to Price Match the Denon - AVR-S760H receiver. Best Buy has it for $599.99, Costco has it on sale for $399.99.
I was denied the price match by a young woman they called over to verify the Price Match.. This is the first time I have ever been denied a price match. They told me it was because it was a "Manufactor's Rebate and we don't price match those." However, it isn't a Manufactor's Rebate. It never mentions :"rebate: on Costco. It says on the listing on Costco.com that "$100 manufacturer's savings is valid 10/24/22 through 11/17/22." I told them it doesn't mention rebate anywhere, it says it is a "savings." I was then told since it says Manufactor's Savings and tells the date of the sale, it is a rebate." I mentioned every sale at every store has the sale dates and that doesn't mean anything, or mean it is a "rebate." I then told her it doesn't mention the word Manufactor's Rebate or Manufactor's Savings anywhere in the Best Buy price matching policy. She told me that it is the policy, even if it isn't in the writte price guarantee policy.
I mentioned I was confused and asked for further explanation. She repeated the same claims. I mentioned, again, the price match policy she is quoting, is not in the Best Buy Price Match Policy, and the Costo sale doesn't mention anything about a manufactors rebate, just like the Best Buy Price Match Policy doesn't mention anything about rebates or manufactor's savings. She then went and said "Well, you know we have the right to refuse any price matches for any reason anyways!" Again, this is not in the Best Buy Price Match Policy anywhere. At that point, it fellt like she just didn't want to match the item at all if she is going to say that. It felt like I was being told that no matter what, whether you are right or not, I don't have to price match that.
I finally said "Look, if the price match policy you are quoting to me, is indeed the price match policy, could you tell someone so they can post it on your website and update your written Price Match Policy cause what you are telling me is not what your website says." She told me that I could contact Corporate and tell them, lol. That was a little much in my opinion.
So this is where I am confused. I have shopped at Best Buy forever, I have been a Best Buy Credit Card holder for nearly 30 years. I am a Total Tech Member, and I price match at Best Buy all the time. I am a loyal Best Buy fan, I am not trying to get over on anyone. They have that reciever in store at Costco for $399 litterlly right around the corner from Best Buy!
First, I was not trying to price match a Manufactor's Rebate, the person at Best Buy made it into a rebaite. Second, the word Rebate or Manufactor's Savings aren't anywhere in the Best Buy Price Match Policy, and the "We have the right to refuse any Price Match" is also not in the Policy.
What is the price match policy in this situation? Was she right to deny the price match? I cannot find anywhere in writing (Best Buy's Price Match Policy) that this price match should have been denied. So I am simply seeking further clarification as to why it was.

Hey there, mrddean!
Thank you so much for reaching out and joining us here on our community forum. Although, I do wish it were under better circumstances. Considering how great our Price Match Guarantee can be, I can understand wanting to utilize it for this purchase. However, after further investigation, it does look like that may be a member only pricing for that product which would not be covered.
That being said, I would be more than happy to properly document this feedback here at our Corporate Campus for further review. In order to do so, kindly use the button below to private message your:
All the best,

Ok, I am still confused. Again, anything that would be price matched at Costco would be what you are calling "member only pricing." since you have to be a member to get that price. However, I know Best Buy does price match Costco. What is different about this product versus anything else at Costco that would be price matched? Also, I do not see on the Best Buy Price Match policy anything about or referring to "member only pricing" that you are alluding to.
Also, I cannot message you an order number, I haven't ordered anything.

It is my pleasure to be able to try and clear this up. The Price Match Guarantee currently does not cover:
Pricing only available to select groups of customers including Membership Program members, loyalty offers, discounts relating to non-warehouse membership or paid loyalty programs and government exchange store offers.
If you do end up needing further assistance or place that order I’d be happy to take a closer look.

Ok, so this should be simple, just a Yes or No! Are you saying that Best Buy doesn't Price Match Costco at all then ? Cause every single thing in those stores are member only prices or prices " available to select groups of customers including Membership Program members."
And just a side note, they never said they didn't price match Costco when I tried to buy this receiver, , I have price matched Costco at Best Buy before, they told me they wouldn't price match it cause it was a Manufactor's Rebate (which it wasn't), but what you are saying is that Best Buy doesn't price match Costco at all?
Any clarification would help!

I am glad to be getting back to you after being out of the office for the weekend. We do provide a price match on items that do qualify from them. You can view all of the qualifications at the link above.
We do match the prices of Warehouse clubs as long as the Warehouse club is a local retail competitor, has an identical immediately available product and all other price match criteria are met. If the Warehouse club website price requires a membership ID or login to view, price match is only available in our store (not via phone or chat) and must be a live offer (not a screenshot).
That being said, it would be at the store’s discretion. I would be more than happy to take a closer look if you would like to send me a private message.
