Microsoft product key has not been activated

So I purchased a new Asus laptop this weekend and added Microsoft Office for Home&Student along with it. I got home and followed the setup instructions on Microsoft but I get an error saying that the product key I'm using hasn't been activated. I've seen similar posts like this where it seems like going to the Best Buy I purchased my Microsoft setup at wouldn't be helpful and calling them wouldn't help either. I've tried chatting with a live agent but it was temporarily shut down. I'm out of town this week so I can't go to my local Best Buy. I talked to the support over at Microsoft and they can't help me unless I purchased Microsoft directly through them which I'm guessing I should have done. Can anyone help me? I need Microsoft for work.

Re: Microsoft product key has not been activated

Hello, MelissaBerg!

Welcome to the Best Buy Forums community!

Purchasing a new laptop should be an exciting experience, and we certainly do not like to see that your Microsoft Office installation has gotten in the way of you fully enjoying it.

I'd like to take a closer look into your order for you, but will need some information to begin. If you will please send me a private message that includes the following, I’ll do my best to determine the best course of action:

  • Your full name
  • Your phone number
  • Your email address
  • Customer Service Pin Number from your purchase receipt

To send me a private message, please click the button labeled "Private Message" in my signature below.

Sincerely,
