I traded in two cell phones some months back for store credit. Tossed the card and receipt somewhere and no clue where it is. Card had to have had 7 or 8 hundred bucks on it. I remember the day and the store location, but that's about it.

Gift cards are like cash so it can be replaced if you have the details of it. Did you use the GC on any transactions in store and also did you use a My Best Buy Account ?
These details can help. Unfortunately there may be little to go on and it may be lost forever. Not trying to sound negative or anything but you have very little details and mentioned above.
I can't guarantee anything but I've seen mods do some pretty amazing stuff. It's cash transactions generally that are harder to look up, yours well maybe even more so now

Good morning, mrh0rnet,
Welcome to our forums! You’re far from hosed, my friend, and I’m optimistic we’ll be able to help get you pointed in the right direction so you can get some replacement store credit!
Any sort of store credit we provide during the trade-in process is a bit different than store credit we offer for returns, or gift cards purchased at one of our stores. As such, we have a team that specializes in all things trade-in, and they should be able to assist in tracking down the store credit you’re referring to, and hopefully provide you the assistance you’re looking for. If you haven’t done so yet, I recommend utilizing our Best Buy Trade-In Center Customer Service Message Form to get in contact with this team, or you can email them directly at tradein@bestbuy.com. Whichever option you choose, be sure to include your first and last name, phone number, email address and a description of your issue in your message, to help them begin their research.
I hope this helps, but if you have any other questions or concerns, feel free to let me know!
Cheers,
