Can you clarify, are Best Buy Reward Certificates still usable?

Re: Have gift card terms changed?

Thank you for the response.  You indicated that Best Buy is "limiting" how Best Buy gift cards can be used to purchase other third-party gift cards - at my local stores, they have completely shut down the ability to purchase third-party gift cards with Best Buy gift cards at all.  However, the terms and conditions of the Best Buy gift card have NOT changed on your website, and still state the same thing that they have in the past: that they are redeemable, "excluding prepaid open loop cards and some third-party gift cards."  Are there still some third-party gift cards I can buy with Best Buy gift cards at your stores?  I'm not sure why I'm taking the time to respond at this point, as Best Buy is obviously not going to change their stance...  But to put this into place as haphazardly as you have, without any warning or consistency amongst stores...  Not having any change to your gift card terms and conditions...  And to do it right in the middle of a Best Buy gift card/Cashstar offer is bad customer service for those of us that are not fraudsters or money launderers.  I am a working mom of a single-income family that is just trying to save money to take my family to Disney.  Now, I have $300 in Best Buy gift cards that were intended to be spent on Disney gift cards, and now I'm stuck.  I have no need for anything at Best Buy, so now we're just out this money!

Hello Zelucifer-

My understanding is this does not impact the ability to use My Best Buy certificates to purchase gift cards.  Currently, they should be able to be used to purchase in-store, but due to system limitations, My Best Buy certificates cannot be used to purchase gift cards online at BestBuy.com.

Re: Have gift card terms changed?

please explain exactly what you mean by fraudulent and inappropriate use.

People can still use stolen credit cards to buy gift cards at best buy, so how does restricting the use of Best Buy gift cards prevent fraudulent and inappropriate use ?

It makes no sense.

No, it doesn't, but it's the standard language used to justify changing GC terms on a whim with no regard for the legality of it.  The fact that you can still buy third party GCs with a BB GC in some states likely means those states have better consumer protections in place and BB has not yet figured out how to circumvent them yet.

Re: Have gift card terms changed?

It is frustrating to have the policy change over night with no warning.

When I learned that I could use my BB gift cards that I earned from various rewards programs to purchase Disney Gift Cards, I actually started shopping at Best Buy for other items. That little gift card flip got me into the store regularly, a store I hadn't stepped foot into in years. With this ability now gone, I don't see myself shopping Best Buy anymore. I will go back to comparing prices and shopping other retailers, probably online, instead grabbing things I needed while I was in there.

All good things come to an end, it's sad that the fraudulent actions of some affect all of us.

Changing Policy-after gift card issued

I’m not angry, just disappointed. After being a customer for years I have decided to avoid Best Buy. From now on I will make electronics purchases at Amazon, Target, Staples or even Walmart...anywhere but Best Buy.
After my wife purchased an iPhone X from Best Buy, she received a gift card. We used the card to purchase TracFone service for an extra phone we have. Then tried to use the same gift card to purchase more TracFone service 3-months later. We were told Best Buy changed its gift card policy and would no longer allow us to use the gift card on TracPhone cards. There was no effort at customer service, but rather a take it or leave it attitude. I still purchased the TracPhone card, but now regret it. It’s not about the money. It’s the principle. Even if I have to pay more somewhere else, I’ve decided once we use the remaining gift card balance I will no longer make purchases at Best Buy. I imagine if this is the way Best Buy does business, I won’t be the only customer saying goodbye and one day BestBuy will be gone...another brick and mortar casualty in the battle to survive against giants like Amazon and Walmart.

Best buy GC and closed loop gaming cards

I went to purchase a Blizzard balanace card today with a BBGC that I recieved as a gift. I was told I couldn't use it to buy other gift cards, which I've been able to do in the past.

The disclaimer on the card says nothing about purchasing closed loop cards like Blizzard balance or a Steam Wallet card. So, why was I told that I am not allowed to complete this transaction?

Re: Warning about Best Buy gift cards!

Ran into this myself today when after redeeeming some reward points for Best Buy gift cards I wasn't able to use them to get Steam gift card. I'm really disappointed about this since even after looking I can't find anything I really care about getting otherwise. My main use for the best buy gift cards was to get things for Steam, Xbox, PS4 and such for me and my son.

Guess I'll be going through Walmart of Amazon for anything I need now since this took away the main reason I peferred Best Buy.

Oh well I guess once again people who are honest and loyal customers get punished and the crooks just will find another way to scam.
