Credit dispute

I went my local best buy with a return for a tablet I won at a raffle. I was told they could give me a gift card which was fine. Worker made a mistake and did not inform me that they could only credit it back to the original credit card. He processed it and they couldn't reverse it. So I am told I now have nothing. They take the tablet I get no gift card or credit. I call for the manager. He says he cannot do anything. This is a mistake on their part but did not do anything. I was going to by a soundbar. Tablet was a 270.00 refund. Soundbar was a 300.00 purchase. I asked the Manger to let me pay the difference he said he can't. I do not know who bought the tablet so I cannot get the money from them. I walked in with a tablet and left with nothing. Can someone at best buy make this right? Thank you.

Due to the holiday traffic, it can take more than a few days to reach your post in the queue.  This is relatively straightforward though, so I'll try:

 

All returns are sent back to the original form of payment unless the employee selects something different such as an exchange or gift card.  It sounds like you had notified the employee, but they still performed a standard return.  In this instance there is a VERY short window in order to undo what has been done.  If they did not undo this transaction in the appropriate amount of time, what the management stated is true:  They could no longer modify or reverse this transaction allowing you to keep the tablet or correct the transaction.  In these cases the funds have been returned to the form of payment on file used to buy the raffle items.  While we never want to put anyone in this situation, mistakes happen from time to time.  Especially in the post holiday rush, we are trying to process everything in a satisfactory time window.  Is it possible for you to reach out to the raffle organizers and explain the situation?  This might be be the best way forward from here, but if not a moderator should be by within a few days to offer other solutions.

Thank you for the response. I do not know who organized the raffle. I reached out to the person who invited me but they did not organize it. They are trying to find out but they did not seem to enthusiastic about it as they had nothing to do with the mistake from best buy. I will ask them again but the moderator looks like my only chance of getting this resolved. Will the moderator contact me through this forum? Thank you again for responding.

I'm so sorry to hear that the return that you were wanting to have completed was processed incorrectly and you had been left without a gift card and the tablet you'd won. I'd feel pretty bad about that too and I'm glad that you've allowed us to step up to help you out. Like jdogg836 had mentioned, there is a very short amount of time available to have the transaction cancelled, but it sounds like this didn't take place. 

 

Can you let me know which store this took place at? I'd be more than happy to see what we can do to help you out.
