Best Buy Store Purchase

We just got a TracFone phone for my dad and were told we have to call and activate ourselves. I use to work at Best Buy and back then we had the ability to do these activations (even though we didn’t really want to). I didn’t want to be “that guy” so I didn’t push back at all. I am curious if it is true though?

Typically while they are designed to be self-activated by the purchaser, they sometimes can be assisted with activating by a Best Buy Mobile associate. There are times when a TracFone may not be able to be activated in-store. The phone does need to be purchased at Best Buy and activated at the time of purchase. If it was purchased previously and then brought in, they typically cannot activate it and you would need to call to activate yourself.

There are some models as well that cannot be activated in-store and would require you to call and activate yourself that we sell as well.

I have found the activation process to be simply easy. In 2020 I got an iPhone 6S on Tracfone and activation went smoothly. And then in 2022 I upgraded to iPhone XR and transferred my service from one phone to the other online and it went smooth as well. 

If you're not going for the unlimited service you can sign up for auto refill on the pay as you go plans. 

But right now Tracfone is offering a plan for $199 which allows you to have unlimited talk and text for one year plus 24gb of data that rolls over from month to month. Data can always be purchased for $10 per 1gb if it runs out.
