Inventory changes quickly. Unfortunately I find this to be the case at other retailers too, especially the one with the bullseye. It could have been sold already. It would not update right away to reflect this.
If you feel you can get this card, place an order in the app and see what happens. Should all else fail you would have to wait for the card to be in stock again.

Your initial post did not say you ordered it as there was some other information I feel you had omitted based on your experience. As I elaborated in my reply inventory can change quickly. If you got the card, great! Consider yourself one of the lucky ones that were able to grab a hot item

There are multiple ways that merchandise is received without physically laying their hands on the item, I don't automatically assume malfeasance when an employee provides inaccurate information. With the hundreds of times a day they get asked this question, they likely provided the answer that was once correct. As hockeycanuckjc stated, inventory levels can change quickly. With multiple freight carriers and receiving not limited to once a day, its not uncommon for an answer to be wrong. Trust me, I understand the frustration with inaccurate information. Prior to joining the Custom Services Team I was in Best Buy management. It is super common to get answers that are assumptions, I can't tell you how many times a seemingly knowledgeable employee would insist a connector or adapter doesn't exist simply because we didn't carry it.
