Best Buy credit don’t get it

Warning do not open Best Buy account. Had my identity stolen, so charges were made from my account totaling 1800 in three day period. First in Pacoima, Burbank, then West Los Angeles. I cancelled the card each time, but charges kept coming. Why? Because all the store requires is a fake Id and your ss#. Wow one charge was made on a card even before it was generated. Like Best Buy couldn't have notified me, isn't it suspicious that 3 charges were made in 3 different stores without the actual card. I had to call 3 times to get the charge removed. Then spend 30 minutes on hold with their security department which sent letters I have to return. I was so mad I said how about at least pay for the return postage on the letter. She said no. As a result 2 hrs wasted, credit score dropped 20 points. Just use your regular credit card extra points not worth the headache. No common sense or security.

Welcome back to our Best Buy Support forums! I wish it were under better circumstances that you were reaching out again, but I appreciate you sharing your experience with us. As someone who has had credit cards compromised in the past, I all too well know this is not a welcome situation to be in. 

 

All of our My Best Buy Credit Cards are issued by Citibank, N.A., therefore any charges or billing are handled through them. I would recommend contacting the My Best Buy Credit Card support team through Citibank at (888) 574-1301 for further assistance with your credit card account. Our stores are expected to follow all policies set by them when it comes to accessing customer's credit card accounts if the card is not present.

 

As far as the the concerns that someone used a fake ID and your social security number in one of our stores to access your account, this is something that I would recommend speaking with the local authorities on to investigate. We do our absolute best to protect the privacy and security of our customers as outlined in our Privacy Policy, and will comply with any investigation opened regarding this situation. There is also information at the link I provided regarding identity theft and what steps to take if your identity has been stolen. 

 

I hope that between Citibank and the proper authorities, that you'll be able to get everything worked out. If you should have any additional questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to let us know.

But 3 times by your store I already contacted the police. Talk to your manager at Burbank, didn’t seem to care as it happens everyday. Oh and told me the register camera was broken so even the police couldn’t look at the video. Asked Best Buy security, told were not the police can’t really help.

Thank you for following up, Phillipleung88. I understand this has occurred multiple times, which certainly is not something we like to hear. Our stores or our team are not equipped to directly investigate these types of matters, which is why it is important to continue to work with Citibank, the authorities, and/or any options provided on the FTC link that is on the Privacy Policy page that I shared previously. 

 

We will fully cooperate with any investigations by one of those three sources and provide any information we can.
