Best Buy Has a Chance to Dethrone Amazon If They Don't Blow It

I recently made 2 large purchases at my local Best Buy after having not been in the store for the better part of a decade.

I opted to make these purchases locally because:

  1. The price was cheaper than Amazon.
  2. I could get my item the same day.

See, Amazon has reneged on their 2-day Prime shipping, as in it no longer exists and they are trying to spin it like it was never a thing. I think pretty much all Prime members were there for that 2-day shipping. We're certainly not forking over cash for their amazing video content, etc.

There's also another problem with Amazon. Their marketplace is flooded with cheap junk. It's difficult to find the brands you like for all of the nonsensical clones trying to take over.

I walk into Best Buy, I see logos and signs of brands I know, love, and trust. I'm able to go right to the area I want to shop. I can lay hands on things IRL. Amazon will never have that.

My sales people were great although not overly friendly. I get it. Introverts have to have jobs too.

On my second visit, I purchased an iPad Pro, Apple Pencil, and a case...my first Apple products ever. Here I was with 3 boxes, so on the way out the door, I stopped by the counter and asked for a bag.

"Bags are 10 cents."

I just spent almost $1200 in your store, and you can't give me a 10-cent bag?

I didn't say that to the clerk. Just said, "No thanks" and wished him good day.

Charging for bags is ridiculous. Fine, don't give them out except by request, but at least make them free when you do. Why even have bags at all if it's like an environmental thing or something. It was dumb and left a bad taste in my mouth.

This is not the type of customer service that will make you an Amazon killer. Here, you have survived Amazon thus far and a pandemic! Don't get complacent! Get amazing!!!

Just the two cents of a nobody who doesn't get out much. I'll think about this before I make another purchase. 3 G's I spent in less than 2 weeks.
