protection plan

I recently went to Best Buy to buy my grandson a gaming computer. The sales associates push the protection plan, so I did get the one for the gaming monitor. Everything was great, it was all set up. I was trying to move the monitor in to position and it fell forward and hit me and the edge of the chair. Well, that was it the screen was ruined. I thought it was good that I got the protection plan. Wrong! I took the monitor to the Geek Squad within the Best Buy store and was told there wasn't anything they could do for me because the screen was cracked. I told them I purchased the protection plan and was told it didn't cover that. Why do they push you to get the protection plan when they aren't worth the paper they are written on. I even tried to buy another one but they didn't have any in stock. Now I am paying for a monitor that isn't working and if you want them to recycle it they will charge you $25. I am really annoyed and out $269 for a monitor.

Re: protection plan

Hello, lueone,

It is always nice to hear from one of our customers, so I’d like to thank you for visiting our online community. We appreciate you choosing Best Buy for the gaming computer you purchased for your grandson. That was a very thoughtful gift, and I am sure he was thrilled to receive it. I am very sorry to hear the monitor fell and cracked. I can only imagine how you must have felt, considering this had been a recent investment.

Our Blue Shirts strongly encourage our customers to consider Geek Squad Protection, as the coverage provides peace of mind, when unexpected issues present themselves. Failures from normal wear and tear, ghost images, and damage from a power surge are just a few examples of what GSP covers. With that said, accidental damage, such as a cracked screen, would not be covered, for this type of device.

I understand you may need to dispose of the broken monitor, and it is great to know you had been considering recycling the device. There is a $29.99 fee for Best Buy to assist with this service, through locations where monitors are accepted. Please know, your feedback is important, as we are extremely interested in continuously improving our overall service. If you would not mind sending a Private Message, I would love to formally document your feedback, as well as offer any additional assistance I’m able. To send a Private Message, simply select the darker blue icon, which is located across from my signature.

Best,
