I have a 2017 Dell XPS 13 that I purchased a 3 year warrenty for. When I took it into the Geek Squad for my appointment today, I was told that it needed to be sent off for repairs. However, I was also told that I should find a repair shop (Best Buy didn't have the right adapter) who can take my hard drive out of the laptop and get my data off of it directly. The hard drive would then be placed back in my laptop. Once that is done I can bring it back to the Best Buy store and they will send it off for repairs. My question is will this void my warrenty? The store said one thing, and online chat said another. Can I get a solid answer. I am not interested in data recovery as that would cost too much.

Thanks for reaching out to us here at the Best Buy Community forums about your Geek Squad Protection Plan. That’s a very good question.
Under the Terms & Conditions of our most recent Geek Squad Protection Plans, your plan will be voided due to faulty installation, repair, or maintenance by a third party repair service. So, as long as your computer isn’t damaged by that repair service, it will not void the plan. If that third party does cause any harm to the computer, that will cause the plan to be voided.
I would be happy to double check your specific plan terms to make sure that this applies to your plan and computer. If you could provide the date of your purchase, I’ll dig in and make sure that’s still the case.
