Warranty not honored because it ended during COVID shutdown

I'm extremely upset with the way I was treated on the phone and the complete lack of any empathy whatsoever regarding my situation.

Every two years I get a new product and pay for the new warranty whether it's my cameras, gaming consoles, etc.

My PS4 Pro started making crazy noises at right around two years but my local best buys (and all other businesses) were shut down 3/23/20 due to covid-19. My warranty ended 4/20/20 and my son was born prematurely on 5/1/20 so needless to say I wasn't going ANYWHERE that wasn't absolutely necessary.

I'm not sure the exact day that my Best buy opened back up for curbside, but I definitely didn't get an email or anything letting me know that they had reopened. When I called they said that they had already been reopened and that I was too late to redeem my warranty for my broken PS4 even though they were closed when I tried to get it fixed/replaced on 4/20.

Its been sitting here collecting dust for the last year broken and I finally figured out that it's the harddrive and don't really want to spend another $130 at best buy for a new one. That's almost half the cost of a new PS4! I realize Covid had a huge impact on all of us but after having a premature newborn I wasn't driving past Best buy every day to see if they were open. I was only a couple weeks late when I called them and it would have been very simple for them to just switch out my PlayStation considering my warranty ended when they were closed and there was nothing I could have done about it. I spend a lot of money with you guys and I couldn't believe how little they tried to help when I called. It would be greatly appreciated if I could get this thing fixed or even switched out for a refurbished one that I could buy another year or two of warranty for.

They can't do anything for you this far out of warranty, however you can buy a hard drive for around $50 new. All you need is a screw driver. There are tons of videos online on how to do it.

Welcome to our forums.  It’s disappointing to hear your PlayStation 4 Pro is no longer functioning as expected, especially if this has been something you’ve been dealing with for over a year now.


As nckhammond has mentioned, once the GSP for your PS4 Pro has expired, we’ll be unable to extend the GSP, or offer any benefits provided by the plan.  I realize this may not have been the answer you were hoping for, and I apologize for any further disappointment this news may bring.
