TV flashes black for a couple of seconds every 10 minutes or so

I have a 32 inch Samsung TV purchased May 26, 2017 with a 2 year standard geek squad protection warranty. What do I need to do to either get it replaced or get it repaired?

Re: TV flashes black for a couple of seconds every 10 minutes or so

Howdy Blue3104,

Welcome to the Best Buy Community forums. First, I’ll go over some quick troubleshooting steps to see if we can get this television working for you without having to do a repair.

First, we’ll need to know if this flashing happens no matter what source the television is getting its signal from. Do you have it just hooked up to one box, or are there multiple devices? If it’s just one box, you’ll want to try to change the port the box is plugged in to. You may also want to try swapping out the cable you are using to attach the box.

If the issue happens on all inputs, then you’ll want to try a full power cycle on the television. Try unplugging it from power completely, for about ten minutes. After that, try plugging it back in and seeing if that fixed the issue.

If the television is still having issues, we should be able to send it out to a service center for repairs. Just head over to our scheduling page to set up a reservation to bring the television in to your local Geek Squad. For a television of that size, you’d just need to bring it in to the store. They’ll send it on out to the service center for repair, and give you a call once it is back in.

I hope that clears everything up. If you have any questions about anything in my post, please let me know. Otherwise, I hope that you television will be back up and running soon.

Thank you,

Re: TV flashes black for a couple of seconds every 10 minutes or so

Great troubleshooting tips listed, it's not uncommon to see these issues turn out to be signal related.  HDMI was touted as being simple and easy to use, and while it does provide tons of benefits it can also be the source of a lot of woes.

To piggyback off of what KyleR-BBY said, in addition to the troubleshooting he mentioned I will say this:  The most common situation in which the flashing happens is on a cable/satellite box.  If this is the case in your instance, and it follows the cable box to other inputs, then it is more than likely due to cable source switching.  If a show is in 1080 and commercials are in 720, a lot of times a tv will blank briefly as it adjusts its settings.  This is because the cable box is set to "native".  You can usually eliminate this by changing the cable box to a fixed output, say 1080.  This will force the box to do all scaling of the signal, which may not be as good at doing it as your tv.  But it does help eliminate this type of situation.

Re: TV flashes black for a couple of seconds every 10 minutes or so

I have tried changing the port and after a short time the black screen appeared again.  Next I ran a dvd player for nearly 2 hours with no problem.  Now I have switched out the HDMI cable and will run that for a while.  I am suspicious of the Cable DVR box.  I have had other problems with it recently.  I am going to exchange it tomorrow and see if that fixes the problem and if it doesn't I will take the TV in for repair.  Thanks for your suggestions.
