I appreciate this is an old post. If you do happen to read this, can you remember the model number of the LG TV?
I've just been alerted to another 43" 4K model manufactured in October 2016, which has developed exactly the same fault. Yes I know it's 5 years old now, but in my opinion, under no circumstances should a display fail in the manner to which yours did and this one has. I think it's a serious safety issue that appears to have gone under reported.

Good afternoon, KeithDTV,
Welcome to our forums. I’m sorry to hear you’ve recently been having some issues with your LG TV, as this would be an understandably disappointing experience.
If your TV was indeed purchased back in 2016, we’ll be unable to offer you a return or exchange at this time. However, if there is a known safety issue with the TV you’re referring to, I recommend connecting with LG’s support team for further assistance, so they can explore what options might be available to you. Alternatively, if you believe there should be, or has been a product recall on your TV, you’ll find more information on our site here, or through the Consumer Product Safety Commission’s site here.
Regards,
