Praise for Geek Squad Tech Rep.

I want to highly compliment and thank Mr. Vishal  {removed per forum guidelines} of the Geek Squad at the Best But store in Huntington Station NY for his outstanding skill and help in getting my 2-year old Dell Inspiron Windows 10 PC back on line.

 

Not long after an automatic so-called "critical" Windows10 update on 2/17/19 I was not able to access the Office 365 apps (including Outlook email and Word) from the desktop.  I contacted Microsoft tech support who tried to uninstall/reinstall Office which required a restart. but now the startup screen would not accept my PIN or Microsoft password.  The tech rep passed me on to tech support for Windows who tried various restart/restore options to no avail and concluded that the entire Win10 OS would have to reinstalled.  They could do it remotely at no charge if I could get hold of a PC or laptop with Win10 for download into a 16GB or higher flash drive which I'd have to obtain.

 

I decided not to go though this stress and took my machine to B.B. (knowing that I would have to pay for service) where I bought it along with the Office 365 subscription two years ago.  Mr  {removed per forum guidelines} copied all my data files (and also my wife's partition) and reloaded the latest Win10 OS version and got me reestablished with my and my wife's email accounts.  There was a problem reinstalling Office 365 even though I had the original product key, but with the help of another Geek Sq. rep...who was able to work around Microsoft's bewildering set of web sites... Mr.  {removed per forum guidelines} got the progam restored.  However, he alerted me that any external programs (e.g. tax return software) would have to be reloaded and data might have to be reentered, which was not a problem.

 

The whole process of getting everything back to normal took some time, but Mr.  {removed per forum guidelines} was extremely patient, sympathetic, knowledgeable, skillful and courteous, and he also explained the various things I should know about file backups, cloud, etc.  He was a life-saver, plain and simple, and I hope Best Buy management will see this post and recognize him for a job well done and his exemplary customer service.  And the cost was well-worth it vs. who knows what I would have gone though if I stuck it out with Microsoft tech support at no cost.  A MILLION THANKS TO MR.  {removed per forum guidelines}, THE GEEK SQUAD AND BEST BUY!!
