Part Reimbursement

I have a Geek Squad Protection ADH plan on my Acer Nitro 5 (A515-53). The hard drive adapter that connects the ribbon to the mother board is broken. I reached out to Acer to see if they could order this part for me and were unable to but gave me the part number of the adapter I need. I searched Best Buy’s part store and was unable to find it. I found the part through a 3rd party and was wondering if Best Buy still does reimbursement if the part is not available through the part store or geek squad. I found the email reimbursement@bestbuy.com and would like to verify before I order the part.

Re: Part Reimbursement

I own one of those laptops. That doesn't seem like a part that could break on its own. How did it go bad?

Re: Part Reimbursement

I took the bottom shelf off to fix my track pad and the ribbon yanked from the SATA portion lol.

Re: Part Reimbursement

Hello Tyler301,

Welcome to our community. There have been blissfully few times when my computers have needed repairs, and I was nowhere near as familiar with the guts of my machines as it seems you are. Still, I regret you're having to cope with a need for service on your Acer Nitro laptop.

It is my understanding that repairs to your computer should be completed either by Acer or by an authorized Acer repair center in order to maintain the factory warranty. This provision also exists for products covered by Geek Squad Protection (GSP). Repairs provided by an unauthorized technician may result in your Acer warranty and GSP being voided.

That being said, I would recommend seeking service through Geek Squad for your computer. You can schedule an appointment by visiting We're Here to Help and selecting "Make a Reservation" under "Getting Help is Easy."

To answer your original question, in some cases reimbursement for a parts purchase can be offered, but I strongly recommend contacting Geek Squad for the repair scenario you've presented in your message.

I hope this helps. Thank you for writing to us.

Re: Part Reimbursement

This is one of the rare times I disagree Smiley Happy if he has the ability to take the bottom off, he can replace the cable. It literally just plugs in and takes about 12 seconds once the cover us off Smiley Happy

Re: Part Reimbursement

So I reached out to Acer a 3rd time and re-explained the situation and how I was sent the hard drive adapter for the A515-51 model and not the correct model that matches my laptop.. gave them the exact part number (50.Q3HN2.002) for what I needed and they still said they only carried the hard drive caddy for the A515-51... The support rep asked me where I got the part number from and I copied the link from the Acer forums where I found the part number and sent it back.... MAGICALLY THEY WERE ABLE TO FIND THE PART??? Hopefully they send the correct one.

Re: Part Reimbursement

Yeah, acer kinda does have the worst support. At least hp has a parts breakdown website.

Re: Part Reimbursement

Worst case, im.pretty sure it has a spot for ether a sata or pcie nvm drive on the motherboard no cable needed. The trick is to figure out which one it is because they have pretty much the same plug in.

Re: Part Reimbursement

It has a NVMe M.2 already filled. I have a 1TB 2.5” SSD I’m wanting to put back in, already had it installed until I broke the ribbon lol
