Misleading service warrenty sales tactic

I purchased a dehumidifier in 2013 along with the service plan. During the sales pitch for the plan, it was explained as being an extension go the manufacturer warranty. The manufacturer warranty was for 1 year and the service plan was for 4 years. 1+4=5. When the dehumidifier stopped working i called for service to find out the 4 year extension is a 3 year extension. Even though the first year is through the manufacturer, best buy promotes it as a 4 year plan. That first year best buy will make you go to the manufacturer.   I only found this out when I brought my dehumidifier to the store for service. That is when the representative informed me of how the policy works. In that first year, they will send you to the manufacturer and refund the warranty. When I called to speak to customer service they gave the answers that there is no warranty service left on the item. It sounded like they had to give this speech quite often.  I then called the geek squad and they could not help me either. I am most dissappontointed more with the sales tactics than the dehumidifier itself. Hopefully best buy can understand my dissappointment and find a way to make thus right.

Re: Misleading service warrenty sales tactic

Hi there Joiefye-

Thank you for taking the time to register to our Best Buy Forums to let us know about the Geek Squad Protection Plan you purchased. I am sorry to hear that you are having issues getting warranty service on your dehumidifier. I can absolutely understand the frustration in trying to use a warranty only to find out it has expired. I am happy to help look into what options are available.

Geek Squad Protection plans begin on the date of purchase and are made to help supplement the manufacturers warranty as well as extend similar services once that expires. According to the terms and conditions you agreed to at the time of purchase,

"Your coverage under this Plan is effective beginning on the date you purchase your product or on the date your original product was delivered to you as stated on your purchase receipt and will expire either one (1), two (2), three (3), four (4) or five (5) years from this effective date depending on the length of the Plan you purchased. Your Plan may auto-renew in accordance with Section O of this Plan. This Plan is inclusive of your product’s manufacturer's warranty; it does not replace your product’s manufacturer's warranty, but it does provide certain additional benefits as listed within this Plan during the term of the manufacturer's warranty."

This means that the four-year plan you purchased would expire four years from the date of purchase. I apologize if the explanation you received when you purchased this dehumidifier may not have made this clear.

I will be sure to log your feedback here at our corporate office so we can continue to improve our Geek Squad Protection Plan and how we explain it. Please let me know if you have any further questions, I am happy to help.
