LG OLED Reflections Appear Warped (Glass is warped?)

[ Edited ]

Hello,

I have an issue with my 55" LG C9 OLED where the glass panel in the front is warped in places. You can see the effect when there are reflections on the screen. I looked at the OLEDs (Sony and LG) in my local Best Buy store and I see similar effects on some of those TVs. Not always in the same location and some had more and some less. I have the 5 year Geek Squad Protection on this TV. Is this something that would be covered? I filmed a video of what I am seeing and uploaded it to YouTube. The URL is below.

Re: LG OLED Reflections Appear Warped (Glass is warped?)

Good morning, dapottsie,

Welcome back to our forums!  I know if the screen of my TV were warped, it would certainly make it difficult to enjoy watching anything on it, so I completely understand your disappointment with this matter.

Generally speaking, cosmetic damages such as warping on your TV screen is not something that would be covered by your Geek Squad Protection (GSP), as noted in the terms and conditions of your plan.  With that said, if this is a manufacturer defect that LG is aware of, they may be able to offer service for your TV through their manufacturer warranty.  To review LG’s warranty coverage and repair process, you’ll find more information here.

Re: LG OLED Reflections Appear Warped (Glass is warped?)

So I contacted LG support and they will not do anything to resolve this. They say that this is normal for the TV and not a defect. Now I am stuck with a $2000+ TV that does not work for me and is not up the quality standards I expect from a flagship TV. Please see the new attached photos showing the issue. These are the same ones I gave LG support.

With all that being said, I have a couple new questions.

1. Is there anything that Besy Buy can do to help me out in this situation? I would preferrably want to get another TV (Not this LG model or an OLED in general as Sony's OLEDs have LG panels so likely have the same issue). I know I am outside of my return period (I purchased this TV on August 3rd, 2019).

2. I bought the 5 year Geek Squad protection plan along with the TV, if I sell the TV myself or get rid of it by other means is there a way to cancel the plan and get refunded a prorated amount of the fee for the protection plan?

You can definitely cancel the protection and they will give you a prorated amount back. As far as I know they cant help with the TV at all.

Re: LG OLED Reflections Appear Warped (Glass is warped?)

Hi there, dapottsie!

I understand that you have contacted LG and they have explained that they are unable to provide assistance with your TV concerns. As my colleague Sean had mentioned, The issue that you are seeing with your TV is not something that would be covered by your Geek Squad Protection Plan, so we wouldn't be able to offer a repair or replacement of your TV at this time.

As for your questions about your Geek Squad Protection Plan, our friend nckhammond offers some good advice here, as you should be able to cancel your protection plan and get a prorated refund back from it. In order to do this, please give Geek Squad a call at (800) GEEK-SQUAD or (800) 433-5778, and they would be happy to assist you with your request.

Should you have any other questions, please feel free to let us know, as we're always happy to assist, however possible!

Sincerely,
