Purchased an Insignia Dishwasher.
Once you start a cycle, the display panel shows
a two digit number which is the countdown of
the minutes left to complete the cycle.
This machine starts at 59 for the express cycle
and starts counting down, 57,56 then the panel
goes dark!
It has gone dark at random times, once when the pump
started to drain, once when the water started to fill, other
times just when washing.
At the end of the cycle, the panel lights come back on
and the time shows 00
Is this normal?????
I would think if there is a countdown timer, its purpose is
to tell you how many minutes are left in the cycle.
I have not been able to get an answer to this question
from Insignia. The only thing they will offer is to make an
appointment with Geek Squad to send a technician or
replace the dishwasher. They say there is nobody in their
call center that can answer the question.
I currently have scheduled to have a replacement dishwasher
December 30th and go through all the hassle of disconnecting
the existing unit and re-connecting the new dishwasher.
I am concerned the new dishwasher will do the same thing
with the display going dark cause it might be a normal condition
but I cannot get a straight answer.
By the way, there is no mention of the panel operation in the manual
even though at the start of the cycle selected it flashes 1H or 2H etc
which it also doesn't mention in the manual.

Hey, JosephStrong,
Thanks for reaching out about your dishwasher. Speaking to Insignia directly should have resulted in answers to your queries, so I’m disappointed that didn’t happen. I certainly understand why you wouldn’t want to keep the Dec. 30th exchange unless you have confirmation you are experiencing an issue, so I’ll be happy to do what I can to help.
In reviewing the manual for the dishwasher model you indicate, it sounds like it would not be normal for the countdown numbers to suddenly disappear completely without coming back. It’s my understanding that the countdown is an estimate based on the unit’s automatic sensing, though. While doing the “sensing”, it’s possible the count may either stay on course or change drastically based on the sensed soil level and load. This is all to say, perhaps when it goes blank, that is an indication that the "sensing" is happening.
To make sure I’m fully understanding, can you clarify if this countdown goes away and comes back or if it just goes away after a couple minutes completely and then doesn’t come back until at zero? If it disappears completely, does that only happen during the “Express” cycle (which should only be used for lightly soiled and pre-rinsed dishes and silverware)? Does a load started with the “Normal Wash” cycle, for example, have the same issue? Once the countdown disappears, does it continue washing for a while to complete the wash cycle or does it seem to pre-maturely end?
Thanks,

Answered my own question as I took delivery of a replacement Insignia Dishwasher today
The panel lights did the same thing, The display counted down 59, 57, 56 then the countdown
timer and all the panel display lights went out.
I guess this is how this Insginia Dishwasher is designed to operate.
So unless you remember which wash cycle you selected and what time you started it,
you will not know how long it will be before the wash cycle is complete and you can "empty the Dishwasher"
However, you will know the cycle is complete if the display is flashing for eg 1H 00 meaning the Express cycle.
If you don't like the flashing display, you can press the wash cycle button and the display will change to -- --
Too bad they don't tell you that in the Operating manual

Thank you for the update, JosephStrong. I’ve also received the clarification on my questions that you sent via private message. I’ll absolutely record all this here at the Corporate level for internal use as we’re working to improve for the future.
I totally hear where you’re coming from about all this, and I’m disappointed that you did not get an answer in time to avoid the exchange appointment. Please be assured that feedback like this is taken very seriously.
Going forward, feel free to reach back out to us here on the Best Buy forum if you have any other questions or concerns.
All the best,
