Geek Squad Repair Ruined my OS

I recently sent my computer to Geek Squad for repair that was ultimately determined to be a replacement motherboard.  It was returned to me with the certification that "all post tests passed" and "boots to Windows properly."  As it turns out, it does not, so much so that Windows 10 not only will not activate, but it now does not recognize my license.  Having spent an hour with the Geek Squad in store, I was informed that they "have no idea why it has done this" and the best they can do is put in an expedited repair request for me.  of course Geek Squad customer service agents can provide no help at all since apparently no one has any idea who performed the services.  in-store Geek Squad rep says they are "escalating the issue" but apparently have no idea how long this will take. In the mean time, I now have a laptop that is all but worthless and in worse condition that when I dropped it off for repair.  

 

As I recall, something like 90% of desktops use Windows as the operating system.  How can Geek Squad not be able to deal with a problem involving the most ubiquitous OS in the world?  And why can no one give me a straight answer about what is being done to solve the problem?

Thank you for taking the time to register to our Forum. I am disappointed to hear that you are having such a hard time with your laptop now that it's been returned from our service center. I'm sorry that our in store Geek Squad Agents haven't been able to provide more information about what happened to your operating system I know I use my laptop for everything so I can understand how frustrating it would be to not have access to one. I'm happy to look in to this to see if I can be of any assistance in this matter.

If you logged it your laptop.originally with a Windows live account, you can log back into the same account to relicense it with microsoft if you go thru the activation trouble shooting.

And if the Geek Squad had not tried your solution already, I would be seriously frustrated.  But having spent another furitless hour in-store today, the computer is now on its way back to the repair facility for further "diagnosis."

Update:

 

My compute has spent the last week at a service center somewhere in Geek Squad limbo.  Supposedly it has been diagnosed and is waiting patiently to be assigned to an Agent.  I doubt anyone would surprised to hear that no one contacted me to tell me what the diagnosis was, only that it was "in repair."

Welcome back to our Forum and providing us an update on your laptop repair. I'm sorry to hear that you haven't been able to receive any updates regarding the repair process on your computer. I know I wouldn't want to be without my computer a second longer than required. I'd be glad to look in to this to see if I can provide any more information. 

 

Have you been able to contact your local Geek Squad to see if they can provide an update? If not, I'd be happy to take a look in to this to see if I can provide any updated information. Can you please send me a private message with your new service order number so I can research this for you?

This has now been resolved to my satisfaction.  I will say that using this forum to communicate with Best Buy customer service has been very helpful and although I am irritated that the problem occured, Best Buy and Geek Squad have resolved it now.
