Geek Squad Protection Plan

Hello I purchased a cellphone on 8/18/18 with 1 year protection plan.My phone fell On 8/17/19 and the screen cracked.I took it to Best Buy on 8/18/19 and was told my protection plan expired 8/17/19.When I purchased the phone I was told it will expired on 8/18/19.Thats Total B.S and they cant do anything. After so many items and thousands spent that's how they treat a loyal customer.

Re: Geek Squad Protection Plan

Hi, Rene25,

Welcome to Best Buy's online community. I recently noticed a crack on my screen, and my heart sank! It is impossible not to feel hopeless when you know that your screen has a cracked screen, and I am glad to know that you decided to add the Geek Squad Protection Plan (GSP) to it. While we’ll be unable to extend the length of your GSP, I do hope I’ll be able to clarify when the GSP began.

As outlined in the terms and conditions of our GSPs, your plan will begin the date you purchased your plan and will end one, two, three, four or five years from the date on which it started, depending on the length of the GSP. Once the plan has expired, we’ll be unable to extend it or modify the terms and conditions of your plan in any way. I apologize if this was not made clear at the time of your original purchase. For more information on the plan, visit this link.

Our team will be happy to see if there are any alternative solutions that we can share. What model and brand is your phone?

Thank you,

Re: Geek Squad Protection Plan

I see this a lot, and I’m not sure where it comes from.

As mentioned by Karina, the purchase date (8-18-18) is day 1 and not a day 0 or freebie day or anything like that. In your instance that makes the final day of the year (day 365) 8-17-19. If you are counting years in groups of 365, then your year 2 day 1 is 8-18-19 which is outside of this coverage. Hope this clears up the confusion.

Re: Geek Squad Protection Plan

Rene25,

Having a screen cracked on a cell phone can be irritating, and I can understand how disappointing it must have been to realize that the plan had expired the same day. Our team is standing by to learn how we can help, are you considering upgrading your phone, or can you share model number?

Please send me an email with your full name, email address, and phone number. To send me a private message, log into the forum, and select Private Message from my signature.

I look forward to working with you,
