Don’t Let Geek Squad Repair Dishwasher

I have a protection plan on my dishwasher and contacted BB regarding an issue I was having with it. A technician was sent out and supposedly diagnosed the problem. He ordered parts to complete the repair. When the parts came in, he came to my house to install them. At that time, he determined that he needed more parts and placed an order for the additional parts. Today he came out, broke my dishwasher completely, and was unable to install the parts he ordered. Before he came out today, I had a working dishwasher (which required some resetting and restarting in order to get it to run, but it ran nonetheless) and now I have a brick. The technician couldn’t care less about what he did, and there was no apology. He was acting very shady after he broke the dishwasher and was very defensive when we told him to leave every part he touched with us. After back and forth on this, he finally gave in and left them. Multiple parts are broken; the dishwasher is broken. This is not acceptable. I have never seen someone come out to fix something and end up leaving it completely broken, all while offering nothing more than a shrug of his shoulders. BB needs to replace this unit ASAP….but I know they will fight me on this because they clearly do not care about their customers and never do the right thing by their customers, even when they are in the wrong.

Re: Don’t Let Geek Squad Repair Dishwasher

Good morning, cmdab,

Welcome back to our forums, and thank you for sharing your experience with us.  A Geek Squad Protection plan (GSP) is a great way to protect your products from a variety of issues, so while I’m glad you purchased one for your dishwasher, the experience you’ve described thus far is certainly not one we hope to provide our customers when entrusting us with their appliance repairs.

I’d like to make sure we’re getting your information to the appropriate team so they might take a closer look into this repair, however, I’ll need a few pieces of additional information from you to do so.  If you could use the blue “Private Message” button in my signature to send me:

  • Your first and last name
  • Your phone number
  • Your email address
  • Your Service Order Number

As mentioned, be sure to use the blue “Private Message” button in my signature to get this sent my way, and if you’re accessing our site on a mobile device, you may need to switch to “Full” or “Desktop” view before this button is visible to you.

Looking forward to hearing from you,

Re: Don’t Let Geek Squad Repair Dishwasher

As an update, BB required me to allow yet another repair attempt. The technician came out today and, of course, was not able to fix my dishwasher. Ever since he broke it the last time he came to my house, the dishwasher will not turn on. He claims he is going to recommend replacement, but I’m not so sure he will follow through with that. What now Best Buy? This has been going on for a month, and I have jumped through all of your hoops. This is a clear example of a lemon under the performance plan and needs to be replaced.

Hello, cmdab,

I can see that you’ve also already sent us a private message with an update on this issue. Please check your private messages going forward, as I’ll be reaching out to you there shortly.

Re: Don’t Let Geek Squad Repair Dishwasher

The nonsense continues with Best Buy. Today they sent out a new technician (this is the 5th repair visit in 30 days, mind you). He literally came out just to say the dishwasher isn’t working. He had no intention of fixing anything, just came to see for himself I guess??? What a waste of time this has been. I didn’t need to set aside time in my busy schedule for this guy to observe and state the obvious. The dishwasher is dead - it does not take a genius to figure that one out. As a reminder, his colleague broke it (and admitted to breaking it) 2 visits ago. Best Buy should be ashamed for selling fake warranties and sending out technicians that don’t know what they’re doing. They’ve now scheduled a 6th appointment for 2 weeks from now to stare at the broken dishwasher yet again. Best Buy - If you want to help, pick up a dish rag and wash the sink full of dirty dishes….

Re: Don’t Let Geek Squad Repair Dishwasher

Although multiple service appointments are never ideal, that may be necessary to service the appliance within the terms of the Geek Squad Protection (GSP) plan. More on our GSP plans can be found here.

At this time, our best option would be to plan for the upcoming scheduled service date. In the event that our support teams would be able to provide a more expedient solution, they may go ahead and contact your directly.

I sincerely appreciate your continued patience while we work towards repairing your dishwasher, and I offer my deepest apologies for any misunderstandings or miscommunications regarding this process.

Re: Don’t Let Geek Squad Repair Dishwasher

I am well aware of the GSP requirements, and this clearly qualifies for a replacement. 6 repair attempts over what will be 45 days more than meets the plan requirements. I hope folks are paying attention to this nonsense from Best Buy. The GSP is a scam. Note to Best Buy: If you don’t intend to follow your own terms and conditions (you set them, not me), stop selling protection plans.
