DamagedGoods

[ Edited ]

My name is Duane {removed per forum guidelines}
To all men known by these presents, I attest that the following is the truth, the entire truth, so help me God.

On aprox. April 20th last year I purchased a beautiful HP Envy laptop for the sole purpose of connecting two-terabytes of music I collected. This was an important part of my life as I'm disabled. As always I employed Geek Squad to set-up the computer. Geek Squad was not authorized to transfer or touch my data. Upon completion of the set-up it became apparent that the new music being added to the computer was bot copying to my external hard drive backup. After what became approximately thirty ongoing Geek Squad sessions trying to fix the problem Geek Squad managed not only corrupt my external hard drive backup, they also damaged my additional backups and the original computer that the music was backed up on. Totaling damaging all three devices. After refusing to respond to my request multiple times. I persuaded corporate executives to try and fix the damage caused by Geek Squad. Evidently, Best Buy does not only damage your property. They hide and cover themselves with lawyers who have refused to accept responsibility for the damages they caused. The music was studio quality reproductions that were non compressed AAC files. Many albums were extremely rare and irreplaceable. Sad that business has become a haven for people choosing not to take responsibility for their actions and failures. Unfortunately I have no computer and I have lost my most valuable thing in my life. Most people have children. My child was ny music as I'm a 62 year old disabled businessman who never operated in such a shady manner. All stock, credit cards and anything connecting me to Bestbuy has been severed permanently. Thank you Bestbuy ! This statement is a sworn statement of the facts. No misrepresentation of any facts have been made.

Re: DamagedGoods

Good morning, Duane,

I appreciate you joining our Community and sharing your experience with us.  No matter what services are performed, we’re hopeful our customers will have a positive experience whenever working with our Geek Squad, so it’s disheartening to hear there seems to have been an issue with the music and data transfer service performed on your devices.

Using the information you’ve provided here, I see you’ve been working with a member of our Executive Response Team regarding this matter.  Please know that they will be your point of contact going forward, so if you are in need of any additional assistance, I recommend follow up with them to discuss your concerns.

All the best,

If the executive response team is involved in your situation, Sean-M is 100% correct. Once they have begun assisting you with your issue, all other teams will redirect you back to them. It’s not an attempt to humiliate or humor, it is now their situation to work through and provide an solution/answer.

THEY DON'T CARE ! This is not a normal company. I am simplybgoing to write a book and then find thousands of what I'm sure legitimate complaints to proove these are deceptive and twisted people who are only concerned with the stock holders share price.

Re: DamagedGoods

Saying they don’t care is certainly one perspective, but I don’t believe that’s the truth. There is another side to this story, and I know that the data loss terms that Best Buy and many other companies have limit what responsibilities they have. Sometimes corrupted or lost data cannot be recovered, sometimes it takes forensic level recovery just to find that only part of the files are there, its too dicey of an area to deal with so most companies just don’t assume any responsibility. This is standard fare.

I personally handle all of my own backups, moving data can lead to corruption. I would recommend everyone follow a 3 2 1 backup strategy:

3 copies of your data
2 different mediums (hard drives, NAS, etc)
1 cloud backup

With this strategy, you’ll always have a copy of your data. I spent months scanning all of our family photos and that data is now worth more than every computer, computer device, hard drive, etc. that I’ve ever bought.

Re: DamagedGoods

I had four devices and data wasn't even suppose to have been touched. You can make all the excuses you want. The Geek Squad agent broke protocol and rewrote code which changed the path to iTunes. I was told by several agents they aren't supposed to touch what they did and by doing so each device was corrupted when they plugged them in and tried to fix the problem. Trust me ! I'm telling you this was there fault. They had no right changing a path to iTunes and Apple confirmed what they did as well as Microsoft. Theyre idiots and I'll write that book and be sure to post your defense of how they corrupted four devices. I guess all the backups needed backup, except that didn't really do much since they plugged into the device that the path was changed, corrupting all the devices. They're incompetent and refused to get a manager which I repeatedly went to the store and Geek Squad for help. THEY DON'T CARE ! You can say anything. I could have had a hundred backups and it would be the same result because the computer hardware was altered. So violating procedure is okay because they post a disclaimer. I don't think so. I'll post your defense in my book and let the public know along with the path as is and as was. Once the path was changed. Geek Squad Services broke protocol and they are hiding from the truth.
