Best Buy fields ASUS warranty requests?

I have a laptop here that is still under waranty until May of next year and I was inquiring about its warranty status since it's something I received from a friend who moved to Canada.

ASUS told me that if I want any warranty service done to this thing, I need to go through Best Buy becasue they're an authorized ASUS service provider for ASUS laptops bought through them? Could someone clarify this and how I'm supposed to go about handling it in the event I need service before the warranty expires (as there are signs that it might need some looking at)?

Do not just go around passing the buck here, that is unacceptable if the serial number says that it's still within warranty. I'm looking for clarification on who has custody of the warranty.

Re: Best Buy fields ASUS warranty requests?

Asus would ultimately be responsible for a manufacturers warranty. I do believe Best Buy does work with Asus to repair them under the manufacturer's warranty. However if you are not the orginal purchaser there may be complications if you dont have the receipt or it was registered in someone else's name.

Re: Best Buy fields ASUS warranty requests?

As long as you can provide Best Buy with the purchase receipt you should be fine. But as Nckhammond said, you would need to be able to provide that receipt. Other than that, the repair is fairly straightforward - Best Buy would ship it off to their repair center and perform the work under the manufacturer. Asus is one of the manufacturers that allows this.

Quite honestly unless there is explicit wording that "warranty is not transferrable" then I should be entitled to something regardless of who bought it first.

Re: Best Buy fields ASUS warranty requests?

Hi, SolidSonicTH,

Welcome back to the forums. That's a great questions.

We are able to handle certain manufacturer's warranty claims on certain models of computers. To know if we can for yours, we'd need to to run it through our systems in one of our stores. We can service most computers we sell, so there's a good chance we can work on yours if it was bought here. It would be very helpful if you could get a copy of the receipt from your friend, as that is usually the easiest way for us to confirm coverage.

You can set up a reservation to have it checked out here if you are having any issues with it.

Please let me know if you have any questions.

Sincerely,

Re: Best Buy fields ASUS warranty requests?

Thank you, I'll have a look at that. The warranty is supposedly good through May of next year so I'll take it in to be examined.
