Geek squad potential to increase jobs

I feel if you were to offer in home support for windows apple and linux , meaning lessons on how to operate and charge by the hour you would possibly see an increase in education moving towards all three systems and people who do not know how to operate a computer could learn. With changes to operating systems and people not being satified with just one operating system as they learn more this idea could increase employment and user awareness.

Thank you for your possible consideration

Are you stating you feel like we should offer lessons by Geek Squad agents in a customer’s home on how to operate these three operating systems?

Tier Higher than Elite Plus

I'll probably have spent about 20k by year end with BB and will probably do so the following year. Just a thought for some of the users who purchase large reoccuring amounts.

I was disappointed when I learned recently that another Best Buy store has closed in my neighborhood (store previously located at Novi road, Michigan).
When thinking about possible paths for the company to differentiate itself and strive under the competition of "virtual" companies like Amazon I came up with this idea of launching a branch of BestBuy called UX that would offer 2 options:
Lease one of BestBuy's offices in a commercial building and use any item from your stock to experiment advanced technology. The company could offer for instance 1/2 day, weekend, week, or monthly UX packages.
Lease any BestBuy UX equipment for similar periods as described above to be used by the consumer somewhere else.
I say that because this could improve overall sales of the company through leasing rates and increased purchasing rates after enabling enhanced user experience. This could also help by positioning the company towards the "service" business and still leveraging what the company can do best today: a "brick-and-mortar" dream place that offers the best experience to consumers that are passionate about electronics. I wanted to share this idea because I really admire your company.

Thanks for the clarification on this idea. With the increased costs in space and inventory I highly doubt we would put this idea into place. Would anyone else like to see something like this at our stores?

The 10% is a nice perk but with the loss of so so many other GCU perks it would be certainly appreciated if BB would start to add to a program that has been getting quite stale IMHO. My idea is to make every week a bonus week for GCU members so there` s no more waiting for the 50%/100% bonuses. Each week have a new or continuing trade in bonus promo running and obviously when there`s regular trade in bonus running it would apply for all customers. The bi-product of this would be the further increase of new GCU subs which can`t be a bad thing.

I doubt this idea will be put into place, but I would like to hear what others think about this idea. Make sure to vote for an idea if you like it.

I want to buy a laptop, and I found the exact one I want on the Best Buy website.

However, right now, it says "Coming Soon" and I can't order it yet.

Two things:

1. I would like to know HOW SOON this item is going to be coming out (is it days, weeks, months?)

2. I would like to be able to enter my email and get a notification when the item is actually available for purchase on the website.

Also, as a side note, I think it's ridiculous I had to sign up for another login/password to be able to post this message, when I already have a Best Buy login. The two aren't connected at all.

Revive & Invest in Employee Expertise

Status: Acknowledged

Back in 2006 (while in college), I worked at the Best Buy in Covington, LA as a "Wireless Sales Expert". Yep, Apple iPhones were just entering the mobile tech scene at the time. We had an amazing GM (Tom) who emphasized the importance of maintaining each employee's ongoing training, ensuring our specialized/ technical expertise within our respective departments. He inspired and encouraged us to learn as much as possible about our merchandise, the new market trends, and our competition. When our customers entered our doors, they came with high expectations... They chose to buy from the experts... From our store... Even if it meant spending a little more . They trusted us.

I love Best Buy but I don't see the employee expertise or the strong leadership like it once had. I think it's a mistake to commoditize yourselves like Walmart'll lose. You'll lose the heart of your brand if you continue to sacrifice your employees' training and team building.
As a former employee and a BBY Elite member, I extend this feedback to your company because I believe in your company .... In your ability to revive the strength behind your brand recognition ...and your capability to invest in your greatest resource - your employees.

For what it's worth,

Thanks for your thoughts on this. All our stores should still be making sure each of our sales associates are as knowledgeable as possible with the products they sell.

Best Buy is no longer found with the likes of,, and in Discover's cashback bonus portal for their card members. The portal, called Discover Deals, lets customers be referred to partner sites and in exchange for using the stores linked, the customer will get 5% Cashback bonus or more, rather than the standard 1%. was part of this for years, offering the common 5% incentive as and still offer.

It was a great system that got me buying lots more from Best Buy, but while the other companies have stayed, Best Buy backed out. Please bring it back to the Discover Deals portal alongside its sensible competitors.

Video Game Trade-Ins

Status: Acknowledged
by on ‎08-04-2015 01:07 PM

I just got a Gamer's Club membership from BestBuy which has been pretty great so far. The only complaint I have about BestBuy's video game program is trading in your games for store credit. I recently went to the BestBuy in Monroe, LA, and wanted to trade in 3 games to go towards my next purchase. I went to customer service where they told me they needed my license plate number and driver's license. I gave the man my license and he had to take pictures of it. Then, he had to take a picture of me as well. I'm not sure if he was inexpeienced or not, but this process took about 30 minutes just to trade in the games. He also told me I'd have to do this everytime I wanted to trade a game in. There is no reason for this. I should be able to walk into the store, hand in my games and give them the membership card, show my I.D., and get my trade credit card in MAYBE 10 minutes. I can understand taking pictures of driver's licenses and stuff when trading in more valuable items like iPhones or laptops, but for video games not worth $60? No. BestBuy should look into Gamestop's video game trade-in system and implement that or something quicker than it is now.

I'm sorry if something like this has already been posted, but I just needed to share my thoughts on this. Thanks!

Our stores are required to abide by local pawn shop laws when accepting any item to be traded in, and these laws vary greatly from one city to the next.

Fix IFTTT Integration

Status: Tell Us More
by on ‎06-21-2015 10:33 PM

I use IFTTT to monitor price changes on certain items that I'm looking to purchase and more recently something has changed on hte back end where it's generating an erorr "Couldn't verify with Best Buy." IFTTT has no way of contacting them to report issues like this but I figured they're probably using some sort of Best Buy API that may have undergone changes recently that is causing this error to occur. Best Buy's developers should partner with IFTTT to get this corrected because A LOT of people use this free service.

(I hope I am posting this in the right place, I just found this forum via Google. I am not sure if there is an official channel for employee suggestions)

As a Geek Squad employee, I have to deal with countless frustrated clients who are unaware that Geek Squad protection plans on cell phones now require a service fee if they need to be replaced.  Most of the time this is because the plan was not properly explained, the client didn't listen closely enough to the plan details, or the client forgot about the fee.  Whenever I explain the service fee to a client, it results in an angry customer who feels ripped off, because they thought the monthly fee alone went toward the phone replacement.  A lot of the clients I have talked to feel like they were bait-and-switched by Best Buy.  Many have called 1-800 GEEK SQUAD to cancel their phone plans on the spot; I doubt they will ever purchase GSP again.

I think it would be great if Best Buy could somehow turn that replacement fee into an up-front deposit when they purchase the GSP plan (there would still be a monthly fee).  If the client does not have to replace their phone during the term of their plan, they would get the deposit back.  This would resolve any confusion about the plan, and should lead to a positive customer experience for phone replacements, with no more customers upset about not being aware of the plan terms.  Less angry customers = win

Status: Tell Us More

I am concerned that asking for a deposit at the time of purchase for a possible future replacement product will impact the customer perceived value of Geek Squad Protection (GSP) and dramatically increase its upfront cost. With that said, we are always looking for ways to improve GSP. Who else would like to see a change of this kind to the coverage?

I noticed in this weeks ad (6/14/15) that there are NO Playstation 4 exclusives and theres two XBOX One exclusives.  Why is that?  There shouldn't be exclusives for one console when you cannot evenly divide them up among consoles.  The two exclusives are Tomb Raider and Halo, with having two exlcusives, there should be more Playstation games to choose from or less XBOX games, in my opinion.  Best Buy shouldn't discriminate amongst the consoles and list a fair share for each, regardless of title exclusives.  So in this case, please add more Playstation games to the roster to supplement those that are exclusive to XBOX.  Hope other customers agree.

Status: Tell Us More

We partner with the various console manufacturers on exclusive offerings and, due to release timing or promotional calendars, the offers may not appear to be equally spread between platforms. With that said, who else would like to see exclusives balanced between consoles when promoted?

Pick Up In Store Locker

Status: Acknowledged
by on ‎05-28-2015 01:00 PM

Allow customers to make purchases online and pick up inside or outside of the store from an automated locker.  Just scan the QR code that you recieve on your smart phone and retreive your order.  No more waiting in line or being restricted to store hours.

I think this is a very interesting idea, but very high risk for the security of our merchandise, and most importantly, the protection of our customer's private information. I don't foresee that we would pursue this idea.

VIP Treatment - Auto Pickup

Status: Tell Us More
by on ‎05-19-2015 03:12 PM

A co-worker of mine is actually credited for this idea...personally I doubt it would ever happen but I told him I would suggest it for him.

So pretty much his idea is to have a VIP treatment charge. I.e. person A calls up and says they wish to order "make list here", the list would then be forwarded to that store who would in turn send one of their lovely associates to start putting those items in a cart that are available of course.

So the purchaser would come in a certain time frame then and pick up all of those items and are charged a vip treatment charge as everything is already waiting in one little area for them.

-makes extra money for BestBuy

-happy customer who didn't have to do a lot

I'm sure there are several angels that have to be looked at with such an idea but hey just throwing it out there.

Bascially my suggestion is to add a new segment for best buy. Currently, Best Buy is on the decline as more and more shoppers move their shopping online. Of courses, we could argue that people still would like to see and touch large home appliances before purchasing it which online does not offer. But the only issue with that is people would come into the store, find the machine they want and then go online to buy it. But there is one thing that is going for best buy, it is still extremely well known. When you dont know what you are looking for, you would go to best buy. And I believe best buy can use that fact to promote it self as a machine repair center/service. Best Buy will offer a subscription based world class computer monitering service for any user. Where Best Buy will run the tests, repair, etc for any member. And if there is a technical issue, best buy will help you get a brand new laptop. This service will offer web security, fire wall, computer cleaners etc. The service will also offer free constultation for upgrading the clients computer, yearly full system checks and much more. Bascially this service is a full package that helps the client run their computer to the best of its ability.

Please tell me what you think.

We already do these things through the Geek Squad with our Geek Squad Protection and Geek Squad Technical Support plans. Thanks for the suggestion.

i have an item in my wish list that is currently backordered 4 to 7 weeks.  it would be great to see a "notify me" when the item is in stock and ready for purchase, maybe even a notification sent your phone from the best buy application saying that, "this item is available for purchase!"

i don't know if anyone else has brought up this idea or not, but would be great to see this feature implemented on the website as well as on the smart phone application(s) across iPhone and Android.

hope other customers agree and make this happen! especially around the holiday season.

Upgrade My Best Buy phone system

Status: Acknowledged
by Emerging Expert on ‎05-13-2015 01:02 PM

I had to call My Best Buy 1-800 number for assistance.

The phone system sound quality is horrible.  It is like making an International call

I was very difficult to understand what the people were saying from all the back ground static.

If I ever  had to rely on phone support for something serious it would be very difficult.

It sounds to me like you merely had a bad connection. I've call our 1-888 number many times and have never noticed poor sound quality.

Use a different email please

I just realized that the BestBuy email for marketing/advertisements in your email is the same email used for actual information such as, when your order is ready to be downloaded in your digital library, order confirmations, etc.

I would like to suggest two different emails the reason for this is very significant. People are lazy and are going to sweep important emails unintentionally cause it's the same email. below is the email I am referring to.

Status: Tell Us More

This could be purposeful given a customer that realizes this would need to check all emails from this address causing them to at least see our marketing/advertising emails. Would anyone else like to see us use different email addresses? Make sure you vote for an idea if you like it.

One of the hotter new segments in computing is Unified Threat Management security appliances. These devices have come about as more small business consumers reach the realization that traditional routers meet neither the security nor the access controls that modern networks should implement to secure both company and customer digital assets.

A large opportunity exists for Best Buy around devices from companies like Check Point, Fortinet, Aerohive, Sophos and Cisco Meraki. Many of these UTM devices carry higher ASP over consumer networking products and are subscription-based so there is an opportunity for Best Buy to generate recurring revenues while promoting the Geek Squad brand to assist with maintenance and troubleshooting (I think a Tech Support program around these would be a very wise idea).

innovative Opt In Pre-order process

Status: Tell Us More
by on ‎04-25-2015 02:20 PM

There always seems to be a lack of supply vs high demand with many products which leaves customers who don`t keep up with the news a lil late to the pre-order party. My suggestion is to allow customers to purchase and load BestBuy giftcards in-store and via that remain in a "cart". For example, the customer loads $20 into their cart then they link their wishlist so when a new item(version/variation/LE/CE) for the wishlist item becomes available for pre-order BB sends them a email/text/automated phone call. The customer chooses 1 or all 3 in an opt in situation so it`s their choice. Within the email/text/phone call the option to immediately apply the giftcard value(all or just a portion) to preserve the pre-order is presented. The customer would also be able to have the system set to automatically apply the giftcard in the event they don`t reply to the notification fast enough. For BB this would be a major advantage in regards to the stock they recieve as they can simply inform the companies ofthe amount of "pre" pre-orders existing in hopes of gaining more stock then other retailers. Not only that large #`s would allow for a negotiation of more BB exclusives.

I really like this idea, and can see a significant amount of customers taking advantage of this if it was put into place. Does anyone else have any thoughts on this idea? Make sure you vote for an idea if you like it.

Fry' is a legit store/site on par with Target/Wal-Mart most would rather price match them vs buying from them. That keeps all the MyBB pts coming.
