New Idea

I have noticed that 18-Month Financing is no longer an option for most purchases nearing $1000 or more. From what I remember from last month or so when I used financing, I was offered 18 months as a pay off time. Best Buy, get yourself together because you are ruining your customer base! The business model that you and your competitors do is "follow one another and not be unique!" I have written about No Points for Financing and now I'm writing about this. You need to be different from your competitors instead of going with the flow!

For exmaple, I purchased a camera and used financing to pay it off, and was offered 18 months to finance. The same camera now is only offered 12 month financing. When did this occur? I can guarantee that none of your frequent and tiered customers weren't notified of this change just like the No Points with Financing. You should be notifying customers of all your changes such as this to avoid the complaints and in-store arguments with managers.

Bring back 18 Month financing for purchases over your original thresholds!

The no interest financing offers are not ours, but instead are offered by the bank that issues the credit cards that are branded Best Buy. This bank is Citibank and you would need to reach out to them in regards to any concerns you have with their financing offers.

RZ Points for Customer Survey

Status: Acknowledged
by on ‎06-22-2014 12:53 PM

Best Buy has a Customer Survey at the bottom of every reciept that offers "a chance for a $5000 shopping spree". Honestly most people won't take the survey for a chance at something. Most other companies offer something of true value (Food places offer free small food items or a small discount, some stores offer a $$ discount on next purchase.)

I would suggest offer RZ points for a completed survey instead of the "chance" at a shopping spree. It would build value towards your brand (My Best Buy) and give customers something they can actually use. Obviously you can prevent abuse by limiting the amount of surveys per day/week/month that award points due to the requirement of having be attached to a My Best Buy account.

It doesn't have to be a lot, 20-50 points may be good enough per survey. Most companies are putting value in these surveys so this benefit would drive awareness as well.

At this time we will not be moving ahead with this idea. The closest thing we do is give My Best Buy points to customers that post approved product reviews on

Here is an idea.....

We miss You Guys Smiley Sad

Being that it really wasn't that long ago we left the UK, I can't imagine us going back anytime soon. Sorry for the disappointment.

I know I would like to see this for sure, whether it gets added to the "Preorder and Get $10 in Reward Certificates" promotion, or gets a free $10 gc launch week, etc.

Other games that have been relased multiple times on various platforms (GTA V, Halo) are getting the $10 Reward Certificate treatment once again, so why not for the Ultimate Evil edition, which is coming to some platforms (PS4, Xbox One) for the very first time?

Status: Acknowledged
I did hear back on this and was informed at this time we would not be moving forward on this idea.
I don`t think I`m going out on a limb stating that BestBuy maybe struggling to sell 2 year Gamer Club Unlocked (GCU)subs at face value of $120. And based off the response to the 3rd $60(50% off) since launch it looks like BB is willing to bend in order to have the program progress. By offering either two or three $10 pre-order/purchase coupons or 1-2 $20 pre-order coupons which would be included in the welcome kits going forward BB would be able to sell GCU at full price. The key to these coupons would be allowing the customer to select the titles that they wanna use them on not just the pre-selected list. You`re going to be getting $60 more upfront vs the 50% off so the net loss of the credits would still leave BB with profit & great assurance of the day 1 sales tied to the coupons. And looking deeper into it the mybb certs generated from the sales would lead to further sales down the line too.

Also, consider offering lower credit amounts on PS Vita & 3DS titles maybe 4-6 $5 pre-order/purchase coupons on them. Now I know there`d be a large segment of rightfully upset existing GCU early adopters who`d feel left out in the cold by not getting access to these tremedous offers & I haven`t forgetten them. Allow them the option to pay $50 for their choice of any 3-5 pre-order/purchase coupons they want from $5-$20.

There would be no extension of the GCU subs time by purchasing the $50 coupon set but the early adopters would be able to pay $120 & get a further upgraded coupon set with 1-2 more coupons along with 2 years added on to their existing subs. Run the offer for 30 days & watch GCU subscription rate dramatically rise.

More ID options when trading in

Status: Acknowledged
by on ‎06-10-2014 10:44 AM

I'm not sure about the implications of my request are and I will probably not get much support because I'm a very specific market, but would it be possible to add more ID documents options when trading in (video games, electronics, etc)?

I'm guessing there is a good amount of foreign people that get into your stores regularly, I'm one of them.

I'm a GCU member and I do a lot of my video games shopping in your stores but I've been denied when trying to trade in games because I don't have a state ID, this cuts one of the GCU benefits (10% trade in bonus).

This has caused me to take my business elsewhere. And when I say elsewhere I mean it. I can take my games to every other store that does trade ins without a problem (target, gamestop, walmart which are the most popular) and that's because they accept passport as a valid ID.

I hope my idea is considered as I would like to consolidate all my video game related shopping (at least) in your store.

Status: Acknowledged
The rules of what is required to participate in our trade-in program are not dictated by us. They are governed by the laws of the particular area each store is located in.
Although there`s more to price matching new games vs used mainly the trade in price fluctuations. But there`s definitely a huge advantage in adding this option for Game`s Club Unlocked(GCU) members, yet another reason not to shop elsewhere dedicating a even larger portion of gaming funds to BestBuy. Even if you only match a few select retailers GS being a must you could do considerable damage in a short time frame. The condition of used games is greatly better at BB vs GS but GS still has the edge on getting new trades back on the sales floor & BB customer complaints regarding a paltry in-store selection still exist. If your selection is already paltry even more reason to price match moving thru more units.

There`s several existing ideax threads dedicated to getting more games traded in & more people thinking of buying/trading in at BB. Combining one or two of them with used game price matching is the type of headline grabbing attention needed to propel GCU to number 1 status. Having a major marketing campain for GCU launch around Sept. would be about right to completely secure the fall gaming period for BB. You also put the competition on there heels with little time to plan a comeback campain before the damage is already done. Had the wheels been put in motion correctly E3 would be GCU coming out party with a Sept - Jan victory party.

Due to condition variances we would not be doing this. Thanks for the idea.

Phones being shipped through UPS

Status: Tell Us More
by on ‎06-03-2014 08:51 AM

This seems to be ac ommon issue with UPS/Bestbuy due to the BestBuy regulations for the way they are shipped and what can/cannot be changed about the delivery of these orders ( even for the UPS premiums! )

I would like to suggest that these are stipulations are at least partially removed to help lessen the burden it has on the working class here. Ideas for stipulation removals or changes are:

-The ability for a user to go to the tracking number and uncheck signature requirement. I say this should be available on the phones because if you can do this on a $2,000 computer it should be available on a $800 phone...

-The ability for UPS premium members to set their own time to delivery. I am not sure how many of you are UPS premium members/or know the good little options out there for this membership but one of them is you can select what time the delivery arrives ( well it's more of a time frame but still ). The problem is I found out from a friend that the specific stipulations that BestBuy has in place for phones even goes higher than the premium benefits which eliminates this choice.

Basically, if customer has 247 MyBB(MBB) pts in their account & they wanna make an upcoming purchase in 2 days or so this would allow them to spend $3 & load the final 3 pts needed for a $5 cert. The primary benefit of doing this vs purchasing say a $3 BB giftcard is that the points would post as "instantly" as possible since there`s no risk of fraud to put BB at risk. Not only that a customer could then calculate it out correctly & instead of buying a giftcard for future purchases just load the amount in their MBB account where both totals will post "instantly".

As a side benefit to this BB would now be able to compete with no tax online retailers since MBB certs can be used to alter the tax hit on purchases(keeping in mind that the total must exceed the MBB cert amount). On a gift giving level a customer could give a surprise MBB pt another customer at anytime. With BB sending a generic "Congrats you have $_____ ready to spend in your MBB account". Once they log in the "SURPRISE MBB pts from _____ are now ready for you to spend, enjoy!!!! banner would pop up.

Promote this as the "Many ways to BestBuy from giftcards to MyBB certs" we have you covered. Give the gift of a MyBB shopping day & get rewarded in the process. You would also need to give MBB pts to the customer giving the pts since they would get pts had they purchased a BB giftcard maybe an extra bonus based on the total amount given to encourage the behavior vs buying a BB giftcard from retailer like Walgreens, CVS or RiteAid.

Interesting idea. Any other thoughts on this? Remember to vote for an idea if you like it.
There`s already an existing way to report missing points from purchases that don`t have the Mybb(MBB) info attached to the receipt. Is there a way to get this added for trades when a rep forgets, doesn`t know we should or how to correctly input the MBB info that triggers the 10%.

I know the employees SHOULD be doing this already but lets be real for minute, check the gaming sections forums you'll consistantly see customers requesting this. Putting this feature in place removes a large portion of those posts freeing up staff to assist with harder issues in a more efficient manner.

If a Gamers Club Unlocked member didn't get the 10% bonus when trading in a game.they should be able to contact us via Social Media, Phone, or email to get this resolved.

I wanted to bring up the idea to get customers excited about Electronic Entertainment Expo 2014 that I think it would be a good idea and great deal to offer Buy 2 Get 1 Free on new video game titles the week of E3 2014. (The week of 06/08/14-06/14/14 E3 is 10/11/12)

E3 week would be a good time to push some software sales and pre-orders as gamers get excited about all the new titles to come

Thanks for the suggestion. Would anyone else like to see this happen? Remember to vote for an idea if you like it.

Is there anyway that EA Sports UFC can be added to the pre-order list for the $10 certificate? After Watch Dogs, I really believe that's one of the next popular titles upcoming. I know for me personally, this would guarantee that I would be picking up the title from Best Buy on release day. Thanks.

(Sorry, I had posted this in the wrong section earlier.)

In all honesty the videogame trade in process is a mess time wise & structure wise, most trading regulars could complete a trade better & correctly than the reps at CS. And since we`re still waiting to see if BB will rethink the decision to backtrack on removing the gaming counters with dedicated game reps(horrible decision already has an existing ideax thread) here`s an alternative.

If we could just go onto, select the games we wanna trade in & get a full print out to bring to CS that would save ALOT of time. All the rep would need to do is scan the barcode which would already have the amounts INCLUDING the 10%(which has been a MAJOR issue just search the forums). If there`s 10 games all they have to do is confirm the games in the cases are the same & get the ID. If one or more of the titles are not correct they can simply scan the barcode next to whatever title(s) are incorrect to remove them from the trade.

Even better existing traders would have the option to "load" their ID info right on the page too which would be barcoded for safety. That way a CS would only need to verify each game(s) & then scan the complete trade barcode and/or the 10% GCU bonus barcode & customer ID info barcode. By reducing what the rep.needs to do there`s less chance of error or employee giving bad info which can only speed up the process by "dummy proofing" it & allow the pc to do all the work. Alot of companies try to remove the "human element" for some of the same reasons not to mention cost cutting, but once this would go into place it would greatly reduce the # of customer complaints on the forums boards from customers who clearly know what/how to do to complete a trade.

Offer an additional $1 per trade for doing the online pre-trade since it ensures a trip in-store which can lead to a instant in-store sale. If you had the gaming counters you`d be able to coach up the staff on how to upsell to customers recieving giftcards which will pay for itself very quickly if done correctly.

Speed up, dummy proof & profitize the entire videogame process in 1 move which will strengthen Gamers Club Unlocked(GCU) all in one motion.

The business team has informed me that as of now we will not be moving forward with this idea.

It has been made clear that Best Buy wishes to expand the Geek Squad name to be more globally recognized and to utilize the brand for increased profits.

I believe Best Buy/Geek Squad is missing out on an opportunity to get into the competitive gaming scene. Riot Games, the creators of League of Legends is pioneering the world of competitive gaming and legitimizing it as a real sport. The United States government already recognizes it as a legitimate sport, providing travel visas for professional players.

Best Buy/Geek Squad should invest in sponsoring a professional team and/or creating an official Geek Sqaud team to put the face of Geek Squad in the competitive gaming scene. Not only would this give an incredible boost for advertisement and marketing but Geek Squad would have the potential to developer their own brand of PC Gaming gear to be sold.

In case you aren't aware of what League of Legends is, you can visit their official site at and you can visit the League of Legends professional gaming site at

Just to give you an idea of how big the competitive scene is for gaming, League of Legends sold out the Staples Center in California for the World Championships with a prize pool of over 1 million dollars. With thousands viewing the event live and hundreds of thousands viewing it via online streaming at

If any company higherup wishes to discuss this further in a serious matter, I encourage you to email me back.

Thanks for your time.

Intriguing suggestion. Would anyone else like to see us sponsor a competitive gaming team? Why Geek Squad instead of Best Buy? Remember to vote for an idea if you like it.

I love my gamers club unlocked account but I do not agree with the purchase limit of 3 copies of each title. I think that there should be a annual purchase limit of 3 per title per year and not not a permanent limit. Let's say you bought a multiplatform game such as Tomb Raider or Boarderlands. You may buy a copy for your xbox and ps3 then the inevitable Game of the year edition or "definitive edition" comes out for the next gen consoles or they release a handheld version of the game (Boardlands 2 is being released for the vita almost 2 years after it was released on the other systems. There are several more example Rayman Legends and Batman Arkham Origins are perfect examples. Batman still has a Wii U version that is supposed to be coming out but some people may have already played the game on three other systems so they won't get to enjoy the game on the wii u.
I am not saying that you are going to buy all these titles on day one but when the game goes on sale or a year or two down the road you pick it up during a Black Friday sale and then best buy closes your account? I think the limit should either be 3 per console per year (same as the video game trade in limit) or the limit should reset annually.

Thanks for all the input on this idea. We have made the following changes to our Gamers Club Unlocked Memberships.

The limits for using your Unlocked membership will be three copies of a New (i.e. not pre owned) gaming software title per platform, per year. Collector’s and Limited Editions count toward that title limit. Game of the Year editions, usually released much later including additional content do not count toward that limit but would essentially start as a separate game and limit.

This game will be a major seller no doubt but probably not at BB unfortunately considering there`s currently no existing pre-order offers. Granted there could be a weekly ad deal but that seems unlikely based of past history with Nintendo 1st party titles. Currently, Kmart has offer $25 & now $20 pre-order credits advertised in their weeky ads so even the 20% GCU is less "value" plus this is a title that will move major units on release week.

A $10-$20 istant giftcard offer like what was provided for Dark Souls 2 or $10 pre-order credit would be enough to put BB back in play along with GCU.

It looks like we are now offering a $10 Gas Cash Pre-order bonus for this title. Thanks for the input on this idea.

Super User Blogs

Status: Acknowledged

This may seem like a strange idea however I think it may work out. Why not use some of the resources at your disposal? Many of the super users here have special talents in their own field and (if they are willing) they could help make custom blogs for certain instructions and such.

I.e. myself if somebody wanted a detailed virus removal guide I could make a blog for that, or a related PC product.

So here is an outline of the suggestion:

-A board for blog discussions in it people can "request" certain blogs/guides. The Super Users/Mods would then either discuss who is the most qualified or design one together for that guide/blog.

-A blog section for the super users I know there is one for the actual BBY staff currently.

Again though, this is super user willing.Smiley Wink

Increase sales

I like your store. I like going to a store and buying products and having the immediate satisfaction of taking it home and buying it. However, in today's economy with aggressive online pricing it is hard to buy a product at a store when you can wait 2 days and save $50 (more or less depending on the item).

With that said why not set up computer kiosks in your stores and encourage your customers search LEGITIMATE web sites. If they can find the same product for a lesser price than sell it to the customer for the lesser price. It is win/win. The customer gets great satisfaction and Best Buy gets the sale. It's already happening except most stores won't honor the online price so the customer goes home and makes their purchase online.
Status: Acknowledged

Thanks for your thoughts on how to improve our business. We already do have a Low Price Guarantee that allows our stores to match specific online retailer’s prices at the time of purchase.

While browsing my local Best Buy Store. I was looking at the Pay as you go phones and was a little bit dissapointned by the current format. The display is too short on the ground height wise and some selections of phones require stooping down to get the phone. The way they are organized though may confuse people. Also the refill cards are a bit confusing as the order of the merchandise sometime does not correspond with the placement of the refill cards.

So in turn do the following -

Have seperate sections for each brand of pay as you go phone with nice graphics and have the appropriate refill cards stocked. Keep them neatly organized.

Make sure your displays are within comfortable reach for everyone.

Have brochures from the various pay as you go plan and have store display posters for each plan outlining the various pay as you go. Perhaps have a giant resturaunt format style menu right above where the mobile associates are sitting at that shows the different pay as you go formats and the prices for the refills. Tell people about how they can get a better deal if they go online to register the auto pay. I know companies like Tracfone and Net10 give you better airtime rates if you go with a monthly refill program as opposed to buying the cards in the store.
