Best Buy currently does not have a wedding gift registry. The wedding industry is over a 40 billion dollar industry and Best Buy does not offer a registry for new couples. I am getting married in June 2012 and like most couples my fiance and I already have all kitchen ware and etc that couples use to register for at one point in time. Plus gift registry is for stuff that couples want that they typically can't afford or wouldn't normally purchase. Plus this is a way to tap into the woman market as they are the ones that determine where to register. If Best Buy did offer this, I would have registered. It would be nice to be able to create a registry online where couples can add things that they would want/need and also offer purchase of online gift cards as well for couples if they don't want to purchase something on the registry. This would really tap into a new market because Best Buy offers home appliances and much more (women love) and electronics for men. It's the best of both worlds. Plus let's be honest registries are all wants and what Best Buy offers is wants not needs. I would love a new television or washer and dryer for my wedding. I can buy dishes and sheets on my own...
Since it now cost an additional $1,000 to reach elite plus over premier silver the rewards/perks/benefits should also be increasing. Previous premier silver promos maxed at 3X like at the shopping events and coupons so now they should reach 5x like this past weekends 5x promo.
This would be a true game changer & a catalyst promo for big ticket sales
1- Having this promo in place when the SuperBowl is coming for tv sales
2- When new tablets/phones release
3- When the Steam Machine/Retron5 consoles release
4- Kicking off the 2014 holiday shopping season
5- When new tech tv`s hit the shelves
6- Kicking off the 2014 holiday shopping season
7- In conjunction with E3, CES & other electronic shows/events
8- And since you won`t price match on Black Friday offer elite plus members the bonus during the early access event
Call it the "Best Buy your way in" deal of the week and put it in the weekly ads. Keep a healthly mix of offers covering all platforms(Including the greatly overlooked PC)
1- Buy any 3, 4 or 5 games featured in that weeks ad get 25%, 35% or 50% off a GCU sub
2- Buy any console, 1 accessory & 2 games get either 50% off or a free GCU sub
3- Buy any console, 1 game & warranty get either 50% off or a free GCU sub
4- Spend $150 on gaming get 50% off a GCU sub
5- Spend $200 on gaming get a free GCU sub
6- Purchase a Sony TV or tablet + a PS3, PS4 or PS Vita get 1 yr free PS+ & a free GCU sub
7- Purchase a MS tablet + X360 or XB1 get a free 1 yr XBL sub & a free GCU sub
Maybe some deals only warrant 1 yr free vs 2 yrs.
Best Buy really needs to be more competetive here. Think about it; "Get the best new games... a day or two after you would get it from any other retailer!"
How does that sound from a marketing stand point? Currently this is what Best Buy is doing. These games are typically in your warehouses at least a week before release and yet even for Elite Plus members you aren't shipping till late Monday afternoon for Tuesday releases (I recently posted in the gaming forum about issues of Best Buy not even shipping expedited for Elite Plus members who have chosed it as well).
Even if this was only an additional "perk" to being a Gamer's Club Unlocked member (paid membership), this is something that Best Buy should be looking into to significantly improve their standing compared to other retailers.
I think that this is an idea that Best Buy should consider greatly. I am a hardcore gamer and probably purchase ten games per year or more from Best Buy and that is just for me. I buy plenty of games as gifts as well. So I would say I buy about 15-20 $60 games per year. That a lot of cash ($1000+). I have recently been considering taking my gaming business elsewhere due to the current state of GCU. It used to be such an amazing deal and a great way to reward your most loyal customers. You would get a monthly magazine and $10 for every $150 spent, not to mention the amazing "5 for $100" and "Victory Can Be Pre-Ordered" promotions. Now, the only thing of mention is 20% off new games. While this is an amazing deal, it also is not. Lets take a look. Lets say you buy 5 games per year. Under the old system you would pay $15 for the membership and get $20 per game in certs, plus an extra $20 for spending $300. That's $120 in certs - $15 membership cost = $105. Under the new system, you get $12 off per game plus $10 in certs. That's $22 per game or $110 but the membership costs you $120 instead of $15, so you lose money. Here are my proposed changes to the program. If I don't see a positive improvement to the program soon, I will be switching to Amazon most likely.
1. Change the membership cost to something a bit more reasonable and add a one year option. $59.99 per year or $99.99 for two seems fair. That way people are saving money by going with the two year option.
2. Get rid of the magazine. It is pointless now that it is no longer print. I mean, it was nice to get a magazine in the mail every month which is why I still subscribe to GI, but now that it is digital only, it is dumb. By the time the magazine is available, I have known all the "news" for weeks or longer thanks to the internet.
3. Extend the 20% discount to accessories.
4. Keep the $10 pre-order bonus for free My Best Buy members but make it $15 for Unlocked members. Why are the people that pay $120 for their membership getting the same bonus as those that don't? Also, add new games to this list on a regular basis. A good way to do this would be to add new games every quarter. So say, add new games for Jan-Mar, then April-June, etc. There are so many games that I would purchase if they were part of this promotion.
5. Give bonus points for pre-ordering and picking up ANY game within a week of release, not just the ones on the $10/$15 promotion. Say if a game isn't on that promotion, you at least get $5 bonus.
6. Bring back the $10 for every $150 or maybe even $5 for every $100.
7. Get rid of the ridiculous 3 game limit and only ban someone if they are clearly abusing the discount for resale purposes (i.e. you notcie them buying ten copies of every game that comes out). I don't want to have to keeo track of my game purchases and worry that buying a gift for someone might put me over my limit and get my account deleted.
8. Have prizes like GameStop does with their Epic Giveaways (signed games, chance to go to E3, etc.)
Collector’s Editions/Limited Editions/Steel Books, some of us love then. Others could not care less. Often the difference compared to a “regular” edition can be nothing more than a different box art. There are gamers who do appreciate these little extras but sometimes the price requested is just not agreeable. So there can be instances when these special editions will sit on the shelf (taking up extra space) much longer than it’s vanilla counterpart who may gone on sale multiple times or who may be eligible on a certain month for an @gamer discount. It is that the collector’s editions(in terms of @Gamer sales coupons) seem to get… overlooked.
Just an example, the @Gamer coupons could be a 50% off to include all boxed variations and platforms (when applicable). That way there is no need for BB staff to concern themselves with or worry about “questionable” coupons as all variances of a game are covered on ONE coupon. I know this would alleviate a lot of “I need to check this out with my manager”, or “I’m not sure if this is the correct title”. Simplifying the BB reps duties and streamline the customers experience created a better shopping (and working) experience for all parties involved.
Best Buy should Bring Back The Victory Can Be Pre-Ordered Promo instead of using the current $10 model it downgraded to. This Year alone many major retailers in the last few months have had distinctly higher pre-order bonus's such as double what best buy is offering and sometime even more then double. Now with The New Generation of game systems and games out now and more to come, the beginning of that system life cycle can be very important for a retailer to want to use and attract upgrading gamers and new gamers to your stores. I have made some comparisons below of some examples of games best buy have and has had preorder bonus's on compared to other retailers bonus's so my point can be seen.

Now Best Buy didnt even offer a $10 Pre order Bonus to begin with For The Wii U Game "MARIO KART 8" but instead offered $10 Gas Card late in the game while your competitors offered: Dell $25 and Kmart $20.
And those are just examples of some the comparisons. As you can see from the Comparison Best Buy has not once had the Highest Pre-Order Bonus since they downgrounded to the current $10 model. And Those Same Retailers are also offering those same large amount pre-order bonus's on more selection of games then best buy currently is right now as well as they also allow coupons and discounts to stack on top of those pre-order bonus's
Simply put, I'd like to see a return of the surveys and activities on Best Buy's Facebook page that paid out RZ/MyBB points for doing them.
They were another way that one could earn RZ/MyBB certificates and stay connected to Best Buy and any sales/promotions that you guys had going on.
It's a real shame that I won't be spending any christmas dollars at Best Buy this year, unlike years before. Since you guys chose to create a choice between ruining Thanksgiving Day or completely missing out on the best deals, I will be doing my electronics shopping online.
If you want my dollars to return to your stores, then you need to return Black Friday to FRIDAY!
So we all know how many hoops you have to jump trough to get RZ certificates, and as an employee I can't even count how many times I've been asked if I can look up their points mid transaction.This leads me to the idea that since we can look up their rewardzone account info to get them the points, then why can't we also instantly use their 'points as well instead of having to print out paper copies or having to scan their phone. I feel as though it would be to more use as the consumer and also streamline the process at the register. If there's a prompt for using the Bestbuy credit card, so why not the RZ points as well just a thought from both a consumer an an employee alike
If the idea of "My Rewards" is to reward customers for buying at Best Buy, how about accumulating 250 points then applying the discount to their next purchase instead of letting the discount expire. I'm the type of consumer that buys on an "As Needed" basis, so no matter what savings I'm going to achieve, I'm not going to rush to the store to take advantage of saving a whopping $15, $50 or $60 maybe. Most of your cashiers don't even understand or explain the program anyway. I know I've never had one explain it to me. I think most of us are smart enough to know that you're making the least amount of effort to offer us a discount. We have a 2 month window to take advantage of the savings C'mon.
This is basically a way for BestBuy to provide positive reinforcement as customers spend their way to elite/elite plus status. Divide $3500 by 10 milestones each time a person passes one $350 milestone they get $10 in RZ pts along with a milestone marker. The markers can be combined with the My BestBuy wishlist/fulfillment promo since they`re both designed for the same thing brand loyalty and repeat customers.
This already might have been suggested, responded to, etc., but I still think that Wii U games should get the same $10 pre-order reward as the Xbox One and PS4 games do.
Please don't discriminate Best Buy. Just because I do not play Xbox or Ps4 games doesn't mean I do not buy games. I have bought literally every single new release for Wii U this year. I bought the gamer's club unlocked with the understanding that I would get $10 rewards, but after purchase found out it isn't valid on Wii U games. That is very bad marketing and employee training.
So please add Wii U games!
On the Best Buy College Discount page email subscriptions are restricted to only students that have email addresses that end in .edu (and by that I will also infer that education discounts are only available to .edu students.)
In 2012, ICANN, the internet naming authority, approved over 250 new top level domains (TLDs.) TLDs, therefore, are no longer limited to the old standards of .com, .net, .edu. For example, my school now issues its students email addresses ending with .Institute, one of the new TLDs. .Academy is another obvious TLD.
I would like to propose that Best Buy eliminate the .edu requirement to bring their educational discount policy up to current internet naming standards.
I would like to start this rant by acknowledging that Best Buy does not have to offer a rewards program and I appreciate the fact that they do, but they have all but removed all of the value out of the rewards program over the years. Before MyBestBuy, you would receive 2% back for top spenders (this has now been reduced down to 1.25% back in rewards); 60-day returns and price matches (this has now been reduced to 45 days); and you had other perks like a free home theater consultation or calibration, online backup and even rewards members only event nights. Most of the latter have been discontinued or are non-existent. Yet the amount you have to spend to be in the top tier increased $1,000/year.
Best Buy could really add some value to the top tier of the rewards program by making the 10% back in rewards promotion an everyday promotion for Elite Plus members purchases totaling $599 and up on a My Best Buy credit card or 5% back for any other form of payment with non-credit rewards account. In my experience working for Best Buy a few years ago, these kind of promotions would spark a lot of people to impulse buy and it also indirectly is a way for Best Buy to compete with places like the Army & Air Force Exchange where customers don't pay taxes (which is equivalent to a 8-9% savings in my state) or even Employee Purchase Programs offered thru various manufacturer's directly to certain employers. It also led to increased attachments because people will spend more if they know they're going to get more back in return (that's the whole value prompt in financing in the first place if you're just going to pay it off).
If you want to really have a positive response to your "One Day Sales" you might consider promoting them a bit differently so as to inform the perspective buyer of the sale before the day of the sale instead of the day of the sale. More than once I have checked my email to see that Best Buy has offered a "One Day Sale" and it was yesterday or a couple of days ago, that doesn't make the customer, me, real happy to know that I have possibly missed out on a sale item that I have been wanting to purchase. In fact, it really makes me rather frustrated to find out that Best Buy is waiting to the last possible moment to tell me of a sale. Why? So they won't sell as much? I really don't know. I see no purpose to not promoting your "One Day Sales" earlier other than a great opportunity to irritate your customer base. Job well done! Mission accomplished! "New Idea", bring on the "You Missed the Secret Sale" and don't list the date.
