Launch a Community Mobile App

Since its launch in 2008, the Best Buy Community has had a mobile version.  Currently, many people are increasingly using mobile apps; however, there aren't really any good tech support apps.  Launch a mobile app for customers, employees and superusers who are on the go and want to participate in the Community.

iPad optimized app

I am shocked that our iOS app is not optimized for the iPad. This should be a number one priority for us as multi channel sales become a larger part of the business. High resolution product pictures and even employee presented educational videos would be extremely useful. The interface could also be updated for iPads to allow a lot more comparison and presentation of information. Considering how many iPads we sell, we really should be taking advantage of the opportunity to grow our brand and further connect with our customers.

FourSquare: Give Tips, Get Tips

FourSquare is an online community which allows users to posts tips on individual store pages.  Differentiate the Best Buy brand by giving weekly tips to the FourSquare community that proactively addresses questions about hot products, i. e,. announce new firmware updates for Blu-ray players.  Also, encourge Blueshirt and Geek Squad participation within the FourSquare community by asking them to post a weekly tips when they check-in.

Wedding gift registry

Best Buy currently does not have a wedding gift registry. The wedding industry is over a 40 billion dollar industry and Best Buy does not offer a registry for new couples. I am getting married in June 2012 and like most couples my fiance and I already have all kitchen ware and etc that couples use to register for at one point in time. Plus gift registry is for stuff that couples want that they typically can't afford or wouldn't normally purchase. Plus this is a way to tap into the woman market as they are the ones that determine where to register. If Best Buy did offer this, I would have registered. It would be nice to be able to create a registry online where couples can add things that they would want/need and also offer purchase of online gift cards as well for couples if they don't want to purchase something on the registry. This would really tap into a new market because Best Buy offers home appliances and much more (women love) and electronics for men. It's the best of both worlds. Plus let's be honest registries are all wants and what Best Buy offers is wants not needs. I would love a new television or washer and dryer for my wedding. I can buy dishes and sheets on my own...

At least print about them on the reciepts! Store #364 don't have a clue about them and I'm sure the other stores follow suit. I thought companies were supposed to know all about the inner workings of their companies but some do not?


I hope I'm making sense, perhaps integrate the forums experience into part of their training and make them aware that these forums exist and what their purpose is.

Hi hockeycanuckjc, Since launching Best Buy Unboxed in 2008, I have worked to champion the Community among business teams, our retail locations and customers. The Community annually assists millions of customers and has had over half a billion messages read on it. Best Buy posts information on the Community about our latest products and answers customer questions; superusers like you help drive a lively and robust conversation. To help raise awareness of Best Buy Unboxed, I attended an annual company event and spoke with hundreds of BlueShirts and Geek Squad Agents about the Community and how they could “Be a Link” in the online customer experience by joining the online discussion. Our internal communication team also has published several Employee News articles, and last month in our internal magazine, we had an article about how employees can be more involved in the Community. In June, during trainings that occurred at all our stores, information about Best Buy Unboxed and our other social media channels was highlighted to all BlueShirts and Geek Squad Agents. My team and I will continue to work with internal partners to message the importance of Best Buy Unboxed to our business, employees and customers. Gaming Developer Live Chats

Over the past several years, Best Buy occasionally hosts live chats on the Best Buy Community with gaming developers from games such as World of Warcraft, Modern Warfare, Star Wars: The Old Republic and other popular games.  This live chats and the transcripts that are posted on the Best Buy Community following the chats are a great opportunity for gamers to connect with gaming developers.  I think it would be a great idea if Best Buy hosted more live chats for gaming and other product categories.

Thanks to great work with our entertainment partners, over the past few months we have hosted more live chats.  We have featured gaming developers from some of the hottest games including Prototype II and Diablo III.  We hosted a live chat with Yvette Nicole Brown, star of NBC’s television show “Community,” which offered a fun perspective for the show’s passionate fans during the season finale.  Just last month, rocker Nikki Sixx from Motley Crue connected with his fans through a Best Buy live chat.  Each event brings thousands of fans to together for an exclusive interaction with an expert or celebrity and then produces a transcript that fans continue to read on Best Buy Unboxed.  We are dramatically enhancing and differentiating our customer experience with this unique offering.  I look forward to more to come!
