Upgrading the Gamers Club Unlocked welcome coupon

Status: Acknowledged
by on ‎03-08-2014 11:45 PM

You`ve increased the cost of GCU from $30 for 2 yrs to $120 but you decreased the value in the welcome coupons. Doesn`t really make sense does it? You should be INCREASING the valiue of EVERY ASPECT of GCU not decreasing or eliminating key perks/benefits. Basically, you`re giving us a bionic body but not putting fingers on the left hand & no right foot. Most people would prefer their regular non-bionic body vs this "upgraded" option.

However, this is an easy fix you need to make the coupons unique, diverse, valuable & consistantly tempting. Here`s how;

1- You need staple couples that will entice ALL types of gamers- B2G1 on used, B2G1 on new, 50% off a game guide, 10% off PSN/XBL/PS+/Steam, 50% off 1 used game, extra 40% bonus trade in credit, 3X RZ point booster on 1 game purchased during release week, $25(1250 RZ pts) w/purchase of $250 on gaming, 5X RZ pts booster on all games/accessories when purchased with a system & a 15% off birthday coupon. These should be valid for 1 yr & a new set should generate for the 2nd yr of GCU. They should be available in-store at the time of purchase or by email the choice of the customer.

2-You need 12 unique coupons(1 per month) sort of use em or lose monthly enticement coupons. These will get you loyal customers. And a new set of 12

I can agree with this. I was shocked when the GCU price went up and I have not renewed mine yet because of such a high rise in price.

I think there is validity to the idea of the Birthday Coupon (Gamestop does it) and I do think that a couple of coupons every month would be a great way to replace the lost of @Gamer. They wouldn't have to be so specific, I'd even settle for a "Get an additional 10% off your next gaming purchase!" coupon once a month (that stacks with the 20%). One game a month we get 30% off basically. So long as it could be used online or in store I think this alone would make GCU look better.

It was weird that Best Buy randomly took out the B2G1 Free New Games coupon with the launch of the new GCU.

Most of those coupons are good ideas imo. But hopefully Best Buy will use one time use codes on something like a birthday coupon so they don't become as abused as the Gamestop ones are on CAG, where people post theirs and tons of people use it repeatedly. We had enough of the abuse when the physical magazines were still in stores and people would just rip the coupons out of the magazines or someone would scan them into that fraudulent 'Keyring' app for smart phones and people would use them repeatedly. That abuse alone is probably part of the reason why the magazine and it's coupons are going away now. So let's not open up BB to further fraud from people who are too flipping cheap to buy their own subscriptions.

FYI, Bestbuy does offer birthday coupons but it seems most people don`t/haven`t got them before. There`s a current thread regarding this issue here

http://www.forums.bestbuy.com/t5/Best-Buy-IdeaX/Introduce-Birthday-coupon-Birthday-quot-hint-quot-pa...

I try to detail several types of coupons to include all gamer types so no one is left out. So if you buy new, used, digital, lotta trade ins...

@cheapest, completely agree these should be account specific. Curious on which coupon(s) you thought WERE NOT a good idea? And what other coupon ideas are missing?

Honestly, I liked all of the ideas you had for coupons. I definitely miss the B2G1 on NEW games that used to be in the welcome packet. It was nice using that coupon a couple of times to stack it with the typical Black Friday prices on fairly new games that almost always end up $30 or under for that day/week. Getting 3 very recently released games for $60 total was always nice. I did also like your idea from another thread for possibly giving people a buy in option for Elite/Elite Plus, since with the @gamer coupons going away with the magazine I see my purchasing habits changing unless those bi weekly coupons increase in number and discounts on halfway decent games. As long as it's not as bad as Amazon at $80 for a year, I'd be down with paying to get the 2 day shipping like I enjoyed for the last year or two with Silver/Elite Plus. I actually got downgraded this year when the fiscal year ended and everything reset. I ended up getting only Elite this year, even though I spent even more. Although the majority of that was from gift cards from game trades, so none of it counted apparently.

I joined hearing about awesome coupons and a nice 20% discount. I recieved the welcome coupons, and not a single one had any value to me. What bothered me the most was the B2G1 pre-owned being in store only and all 3 stores near me have nothing in stock other than shovelware. Then a few weeks later I heard that some people were getting more coupons but I didn't recieve any. Bestbuy customer service told me these were sent out at random and they are no longer going to be sent out. Also, I havent seen anything of interest for sale from Bestbuy. All I see is Xbox and PS4 games, Assassins Creed Black Flag and COD Ghosts sales over and over and over. I'm starting to think that getting GCU was a terrible idea...

I'm definitely in support of this, particularly regarding the B2G1 coupon on new games. I loved stacking that one, too.

The coupons need to be able to be used in-store & online too

I agree, Bestbuy should at least give us some one-time use coupons throughout the year to cover for the loss of @Gamer magezine. At 120$, things aren't looking too good for GCU.
