Suggestion for Preorder Program

Best Buy has come a long way in regards to their gaming businees and more recently preorders.  There are still issues with getting dlc (and sometimes physical bonuses), but that will take time as it seems it is typically based on a store's and employee's training.

 

 

A big issue is the actual preorder and how it is treated in the POS. 

 

Online preorders are like any online order that is backordered/not available yet.  Any cancelations would result in no carges to form of payment (paypal is another story),

 

In store preorders (different from online orders FOR instore pickup), however, is the real problem.

I recently attempted to have a preorder canceled...from a little over 2 years ago.  It could not be done.  Longs story short, I would preorder games for myself and friends (before GCU or at least the 20% off!) so I could more easily hit Premier Silver.  Back in 2012 I had at least a half dozen preorders that were never picked up, mostly due to Hurricane Sandy (myself or friends couldn't get to the actual store).  I have found several of the preorder receipts along with a few not around this time.  This is at least $30+ gone to waste (including taxes on some of the deposits).

 

I also noticed that at one point, along with the $5 deposit (don't believe more could be made), tax was charged on the preorder.  Eventually this is done away with and a deposit of $5+ could be made.

 

Gamestop is often mentioned a lot, typically in complaints about "Gamestop does this why no Best Buy etc".  Preorders can be canceled at any time, at least from my experience - even preorders over a year.  I also believe if you go to a specific store, they can tell you what was your last preorder that you bought was.  I am not sure if it extends beyond that for all preorders even ones canceled.

 

It would be great if Best Buy can implement some history tracker of all preorders. 

 

Unfortunately as I discovered the MYBB website has been absorbed by the main site, transactions (via points history) no longer indicate the actual store transaction number or list the skus on the transaction as they have had in the past.  This was a "cheap" way for me to keep track of instore preorders and store purchases.  Online orders also don't indicate the order #.  This isn't as bas as order history can be looked up under Online Orders.

I would say dont allow pre-orders 2 years before a product is released.

 

For a history tracker putting one in place would be good though.  And every 6 months send out an automated email letting the customer know their order is still active and if they would like to keep it open.  If they don't respond in a reasonable time frame, cancel the order.  

 

Long term open orders are an issue because a lot of systems don't like to keep credit card numbers around that long.
