Stop Putting Price Stickers on DVD/Blu-ray Sleeves

Status: Acknowledged
by on ‎11-22-2014 12:44 AM

It would be awesome if Best Buy Stores will stop putting price tags on the DVD/Blu-ray sleeves as they are a major pain to remove without ripping the sleeve apart. When ordering movies from sites online (including Best, the price stickers are never on the sleeves. Other stores sometimes have stickers on the sleeves as well but they are nowhere as hard to remove as the Best Buy one. Another electronic retailer, Fry's Electronics, puts their price tags on the plastic shrink wrap of a movie instead of the sleeve which I think is an amazing idea when I found out about it. It's just a pain if someone has a movie collection and there's a giant price tag on it that can't be removed

I revisited this idea as I hadn't heard anything definitive, and at this time we are not changing the stickers we apply to media. Thanks for the feedback on this one.

I agree or use a sticker that is removed easier it is annoying to find a nice sleeve and have it ruined with a sticker that cannot be removed without damage

The same idea was posted back in 2012, but didn't gain much traction. Would anyone else like to see this change? Make sure you vote for an idea if you like it.

Definitely upvoting this.  Best Buy has lost about $500 worth of anime sales from me because of this.  Especially when there is artwork involved.  I've also canceled a few online orders for video games because of this.  Collector's Edition boxes either have a big annoying sticker on it, have the security wires too tight (digs into the boxes), or the In-Store Pickup receipt is attached to the box using half a roll of tape.  I cancel those at the desk and have it ordered from Amazon Prime before I've walked out of the store.

The only reason I choose to get from Best Buy instead of like Amazon right now is due to prices. If it was for something common like big retail movie release, I would rather just price match at say Wal-mart or Target just to prevent having to try and take the painful price sticker off of the Best Buy movie sleeves. I know some people just throw their cases away, but I have mine on a bookshelf and it's pretty ugly going through the movies and seeing a price sticker staring at me lol

are not most of these products shrink wrapped in the first place?  And you generally throw the shrink wrap away?

I often buy the collector/special edition DVDs and many come shrink wrapped inside of a cardboard slipcover. Best Buy puts the stickers directly on the cardboard cover, which then gets torn or at a minimum, has sticky residue left on it after you remove the stickers.

The same thing goes for in-store pickup of online purchases. I bought several Christmas presents online yesterday, and when I picked them up today, each had a HUGE label on it with my name and pickup date. One was just a gift card for online software purchases, and the sticker literally covered the whole front and half of the back! Seriously, put the stuff in a bag with a label on the bag, not the merchandise. For that matter, PLEASE GET INSTORE PICKUP ORGANIZED (at least at the Flower Mound, TX store). It took 20 minutes for them to figure out where my stuff was, completely defeating one of the benefits of ordering online and picking up in store.

In addition, Best Buy sometimes has exclusive sleeves for new releases, and then they slap an obnoxious price sticker on it that leaves a disgusting residue even f you are are able to remove it without otherwise damaging the sleeve. What's the point of having an exclusive cover if the buyer is just going to trash it because it was ruined by the price sticker?

There has to be a better way. Weaker adhesive, or a different price indicator altogether.

I think more people would complain when a price is not on a product.

Having a LOOSE shrinkwrap/sleeve with the pricing/sku info would work well since once removed the product will be completely factory new.

People would complain if the price isn't on the package, BUT if the price is on the sleeve and the sleeve gets lost anyways then there is no price either way. If it was on the plastic shrink wrap though it would still be on the item unless someone opens it up. In which case unless it was a good sale, most people probably wouldn't want an open item.

I did pick up Guardians of the Galaxy at Best Buy today and almost reconsidered due to the sticker on the sleeve. Luckily I was able to remove it easy enough before checkout so I was fine. First time I had no problems removie a Best Buy sticker from the sleeve surprsingly...
